This is why people hate cops

This idiot hit a guy on a bike going 83 in a 25. This alone might have been forgiven, but if you read the article you'll see he has a lengthy track record of stupidity, including afterwards. We the taxpayers are about to make someone rich because we can't hire decent officers!

Don't ride your bike at night wearing dark clothes. Also, the really bright flashing lights on the cop car means get out of the way

My original comment was he might be given if this was an isolated incident

pointing a stun gun at bar patrons in 2020. Two years later, he was suspended for four days for forging military orders

I read the whole article and although this cop seems to be a major a-hole, he wasn't at fault for hitting the cyclist. He had his lights on and had a green light. The cyclist was wearing dark clothes and ran a red light while cycling at night. It's a sad story for that family but it's not the cops fault here. And I am usually one that hates cops.

That's definitely on reason. There's the whole, comply or get arrested thing too. And, being backed by every officer and supervisor in charge to protect the brand, regardless of how many laws they broke, rarely admitting fault, intimidation tactics and for the most part, flat out being douchebags that helps too.

The 2025 crash with Washington led to an investigation that was ultimately deemed to be the fault of the cyclist, even though the officer was traveling at extraordinary speed on a thickly settled street.

While i agree that the speed was not necessary, i am gonna point something out here.
I’m gonna ask a serious question here. What the frick would someone ride a bike at night in a dark area with dark clothing on? And yes, let’s point out the obvious here, their skin is black. That’s just stupid.
Why is that people think that at all times a driver is gonna see you? You see it all the time in parking lots, crossing the street, riding a bike, running, and walking. People will act like they will just go around me.

Doesn't sound like it's the cops fault. I do wonder what call was so important that he's doing 83 in a 25.
My issue with policing is the cost. In Louisiana, we're a welfare by employment State. Washington Parish has 40,000 people and we have 5 different police agencies. Why can't the Sheriffs office handle all of it and get rid of some of the administrative duplications?

He need to be gone and lose his pension.
This is ridiculous.

This case is an outlier. If it weren't, "you'd know it."
Many people hate cops by default because they love criminals more than law and order. Plenty of evidence supporting THAT.

Don't you know cyclists are supreme beings to whom the laws of man and good sense do not apply, peasant?
ETA: and this wasn't even THAT kind of cyclist. Just your run of the mill didn't give a frick criminal one

Running a RED LIGHT at night
While on a bicycle
In front of a speeding cop
Who had his flashing lights on
Sounds like natural selection.
And this is from someone who’s bother was run over on a bicycle, instantly becoming a former doctor and now paraplegic to both limbs on his right side, by a woman who crossed the wrong side of a curve while feeding her baby oatmeal while uninsured in her boyfriends car, while speeding because she was late to the methadone clinic and without a job, while out on bail for shop lifting. DA said there was nothing to go after, so there was nothing he could do.
Because bad shite just happens even to good people.

Was she the one who had a big problem with the Cajun Navy and accused them of stealing all the relief items/gifts donated to them for flood victims so she then started her own relief item collection and only to get caught stealing (or something like that anyway) or was that the other red headed try-too-hard activist?
