My favorite form of p-handle disgust is when parents & guardians let kids play in traffic at busy intersections asking for free money so their whatever team can go on an all expense paid trip.

I didn't attribute it to Jesus. It was Moses Maimonedes.

I've seen people credit Lao Tzu and Confucius with it too. Either way, it ain't in the bible!

There's a dude in the rotation at St. Charles & Louisiana. He starts up at the head of the red light line, and limps on down, like he can barely walk. But, when there's no cars present, he doesn't limp. I've also seen him both coming and going, and he doesn't limp.
I don't give shite to any of them.

That's great, but the OP was asking what to do in context of his religion. You can tell beggars to go to hell all you want, it's your right, but you're not going to find any quote from Jesus saying it's cool.
I am a Christian and give all my money to my Church and charitable organizations that I trust.

Even worse when they set up shop infront of a grocery store or something and guilt trip you on the way in and way out.
There was a grocery store that was a 2 minute walk from one of my old apartments that I refused to go to on the weekends because every weekend there was some kids sports team or cheerleading/gymnastics/dance studio or something right at the entrance that would try to guilt you into giving them money.

And that's great, charity is a good thing. But you're not going to find any bible verse, that I'm aware of, where Jesus says to reserve your charity for the worthy.

I didn't say it was in the Bible. I just said I thought it was part of tradition.
Regardless, it's more sound than the notion that tossing dollars at them is going to help them beyond that day's bottle or rock.

It's not.

That might be, but the OP wants to know how to reconcile this logic with his Catholicism.

I usually throw some change out in the intersection so they have to work for it if they really want it.
There's a guy I have to pass just about every single day for the past couple of years. He used to stand in a gas station parking lot but I guess the owner got tired of it and told him to carry his arse. So he just moved a little further down the road. He has a cane and walks with a limp but that's probably just part of his act. It gets on my nerves every time I see the guy. I want to roll down my window and tell his lazy arse to go get a fricking job.

Donate to a homeless charity in your town and do it pretty regularly, print up some fliers and whenever you're faced with being one of the cars that can't avoid them at redlights...give them a flier

The panhandlers at the I-10 - Gause intersection in Slidell are ridiculous. I don't understand why the police don't put a stop to it. Slidell is such a wonderful place to live otherwise.

When we were building our home we were staying in an apartment in the Voss/San Felipe area of Houston. There was always this older black guy standing on the median asking for money. One day I was coming home from work and watched him pull out his cell phone and start talking to someone. Few years go by and I was going home one day in a different area of Houston and the same guy was standing there again with his sign. I guarantee this dude was making a killing and wasn't in need of any help.

Those and the crew of people with buckets collecting for their "church". They usually work one busy intersection/stoplight, like Perkins and College, and walk between the cars trying to get you to donate. Sorry, I gave at my own church.

A guy was holding a sign that just said Help Please. He didn't approach cars, he didn't make eye contact, just stood there. I gave him $2.00. When I called him over, and handed him money, he cried. It made the other times I've given worthless bums money worth it. You never know how they are struggling but if I can help at least one guy, its worth it.

There's one that works the Nicholson Exit off I-10E every afternoon. I know this dude is more than capable of working too.

I like to hand out food. I try to keep a box of granola bars in my car to hand out when approached.

Jesus did not stop and help every beggar he passed on his journeys in his mission.
Regardless of the accuracy of this, imagine being one of the guys Jesus ghosts as he's walking down the road and you find out later the dude is supposedly the son of god.
