Any of you mets want to comment on that phenomenon?
Levi Cowan's twitter has a conversation about just that. It is one of his tweets a couple hours ago.
Edit....I knew it was one of them. Couldn't remember.

The weather channel is so fricking gay. They spend all week reporting in the field with a dozen correspondents in different locations then the storm makes landfall and their live reports are no where to be found. It’s just two chodes talking in the studio.

Yeah. They actually have a storm where they wouldn't have to do this...and they are nowhere to be found...

I've been watching them all day and they've gone out repeatedly to the field guys... Goodloe, Seidel, and even independent storm chaser Charles Peek as well as another chaser whose name I can't remember at the moment
now the storm may be forcing them to shut down the live shots due to dangerous conditions at the moment... or the signal can no longer get out from the live shot due to the conditions

Hanna would have been a Major Hurricane if it had another day for sure.

You can hear the disappointment in Siedel's voice every time he mentions that he's only had a gust to 53 and the hurricane force winds are 2 hours to his south.

Birds prefer to fly in the calm of the eye vs the eyewall.
That scan is using differential reflectivity. It's taking how wide the target is minus how tall it is. Typically you'd use to to see rain vs hail (rain fatter than it is tall and has a higher number). Those reds are aren't from rain or water, so it's something non meteorological. You'd also look at the correlation coefficient which asks how alike in shape is this shite I'm hitting compared to what's around it.

Hanna is turning out to be like a Hanna I used to mess around with. Wet, a little wild, likes to blow more than you expected, but overall....she's mildy annoying.

Told you she likes to blow.

Why? Nary a weather buoy recorded a windspeed of over 55 MPH. It went through a shiite pile of them before landfall.

Good radar shot of what is likely birds/bugs caught in Hanna’s eye (the white/red/pink inside the eye):
