Just retired. A life without alarm clocks, weight of a Sunday thinking about upcoming work week, and right amount of/ hours of sleep… Are glorious.

I’ll be there in 3 months. Can’t wait.

Things that colleagues act like is so important, in reality, is not.

A lot of accurate statement have been made here, but this one really rings. When everything is a priority, nothing is actually a priority. They act like this thing right now is the most important thing ever just to make some numbers, only to find out that this number here would have been just as acceptable over there. We see it every quarter and it drives me nuts. Fire drill to make numbers when they could just as easily be applied next quarter. Either way, you're getting paid for the work you did.

This depends on the industry.

Restaurant industry, you can go ahead and reverse this entire saying.

I’ll tell you a tip on making Mondays better … treat Sundays like Fridays … wide open throttle.

You forgot the grandaddy of them all. Juneteenth.

Almost every burner vacation day that I take is on a Monday. Far superior to taking off a Friday.

Something about missing a Monday just fricks up my bearings for the rest of the week. Would much rather take off a Friday. You have the whole week to look forward to it, and you can just treat Thursday as your "Friday."

That's something I've had to reprogram myself to understand in the last few years. I've always treated Sunday as the "catch up before the week, day" which ends up more like work. Which resulted in a sort of dread about the weekend ending on Saturday. Work hard during the week. Check the right boxes, then leave that shite there over the weekend.

That would occasionally fall on Robert E. Lee's birthday. (Jan. 19th.)

If you ever work for a short person with a big, hooked nose, you will learn why all stereotypes are based in truth.

If you put in extra hours and extra effort, sacrifice a little bit, it will definitely be noticed by management and you'll get adequately rewarded later.

If you’ve ever been through a merger or even worse, an acquisition you realize pretty quick that all those late nights creating/implementing process improvements and streamlining means zilch. It all gets replaced with the other company’s software and what you thought was so important literally gets thrown in the trash.

Also people that hoard work thinking they’re creating job security are the first to go. We all know that guy. Works around the clock while everyone else is twiddling their thumbs trying to help, but all he does is keep everything to himself and bitch about burnout. Congrats, there’s the door a-hole. You may be missed for 2-3 weeks, then the company is fine.

Also, since I’ve been in more of an executive role, I’ve learned there’s isn’t much difference to the bottom line between employee’s C results and A+ results. We’re usually perfectly happy with C results if it means operating more lean with less overhead. All the goals and performance review stuff is bullshite to get you to work harder than you need to. If you’re demanding top level pay and keep asking for overpriced 3rd party help or software solutions then you’re a problem overspending for A results when a C will do fine in your non critical role or in some cases, critical roles.
