I don’t know whether to be disgusted or satisfied that the POTUS stood in front of a podium and said this was all about the oil.
I didn’t see Canada losing its bid at 51st state. Now it sounds like Cuba may be slated for 52.

Mexico seems to be one that’s next for the orange one.

Judging by our previous forays into regime changes, this isn’t going to work out well in the long run.
Which prior forays do you think this is comparable to?

I think it’s time we stop pretending that oil is what makes the world as we know it possible. Without it we’d still be basically living in the 1600s.

Not sure if you watched the press conference but Cuba was discussed and even Rubio said that the government there should be worried.

I don't know what happens after this, but we are definitely in uncharted waters. I guess we'll see where this goes.

This is Iraq 2.0. President ousts US oil majors and nationalizes those resources, US invades and takes them back, subsequently installing its own government to protect US interests. And to be clear, this isn’t just the US acting on its own. China, Russia, W. Europe and Japan all benefited greatly from said Iraqi oil and will do the same from Venezuelan oil, regardless of what they say publicly for domestic PR reasons

It was always about oil. Its silly to believe it was about drugs lol

I don't think even the most conservative person in the planet believes that. Do they smuggle drugs, absolutely. Are they even on a scale remotely close to Colombia or Mexico? Hell no, that's laughable.

Wrong.
No radicle jihadis in Venezuela, other than Iranians.
They don’t want none.

this will end with tens of thousands of refugees/immigrants coming to the us

Don’t disagree, at all. We wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for oil, clearly.
I’m struggling with the whole issue of sovereignty. We just toppled a nation to install American oil companies on the ground to extract oil. The easy part is done, now come the repercussions.

No it won’t. Quite the opposite will happen as several thousand Venezuela people will leave the US to go back home.

Trump relying heavily on Rubio throughout and Rubio continues to be on point. Rubio setting up for a run in 28 and if the party is smart they’ll make him the nominee and not the VP.
Rubio probably wouldn’t have beaten Hilary in 2016, but he’s been arguably one of the best members of the GOP in the last 10 years. The Gang of 8 bill would have fixed a ton of the problems we have today but he got shunned for it.

Great. More illegals crossing our borders. Awesome!

He was a dictator.
Dictator means might makes right.
Our might was mightier.
Venezuelans rejoice.

They won’t go home until….
Government is functioning
Oil money makes it to the people to improve quality of life
Public safety/law enforcement corruption is removed
Even executed to perfection, those three items will take years to accomplish. Foreign actors WILL be interfering, we’ll have a fight for power internally, oil companies somehow forced to give profits to the new government, and US boots on the ground getting picked off by angry Venezuelans/militias fighting for independence.
And they’re talking openly about doing this same thing elsewhere!

Does anyone know if we captured the guy(forgot his name but heard about him on a podcast) who was really pulling all the strings? We got the figurehead but he wasn't the one actually making all the decisions. He was forced to do what this other guy with all the real power said.
