Venezuela has a rich culture of corruption. Its just accepted and expected from EVERYONE. They are going to need a much harder reset than swapping out a leader to become a competent country.
The way that narratives are shaped on places like the Political Board don't give me an emotional reaction. I just think that places like that are interesting.
After spending months telling us that Venezuelans were barbarians and terrorizing our country, now they are telling us that Venezuelans are civilized western Christians, so therefore it won't be like all the times we meddled with regime change in the Middle East, and this time will be different.

TLDW - Venezuela's slide into dysfunctional chaos began in the late 90's with the corrupt Chavez, continuing with Maduro. They import 80% of food needs, and decimated a once robust oil business.
President Trump stated we will run the country for now.
Exxon et al, as large as the majors are, will not revitalize and develop Venezuela's oil fields without iron clad security for their investment, people and equipment.
Having a government the U.S. trusts, who control Venezuela's military and security apparatus, is required. U.S. boots on the ground? Good luck with that idea, yet I don't see how we enforce our intent without them, at some scale.
The Day After and Plan for stability and reconstruction have yet to be articulated by the Trump Administration, in consultation with Congress for funding, as mandated by law.
I am skeptical this "police action" over the short and long term will become as successful as presented by the Administration. We've seen this movie before.
It's good a criminal thug and his cooperation with our global adversaries has been taken to face Justice. Nonetheless, "You Break You Own It" and "The First Casualty of War Is The Truth" are fully operative.

You didn't answer my question.

Removing the leader of a rogue nation-state is the easy part and the fun part.
The parts after that are way less fun and way more frustrating and complicated.
If only it was so simple as "Trump sending some of his best guys down there to sort things out and everything will be great."

I didn't realize they were importing 80% of their food needs. That is a CRAZY number, and that all stopped yesterday.
If this is to be successful, we need food shipments going there yesterday to "win hearts and minds". If they start starving (again), the population will turn quickly.

I didn't realize the Middle East is in the Western Hemisphere.
Have you acknowledged how well the raid went and that its a good thing to free a country? I only see you posting about what could go wrong.

Maduro's people will just grab the shipments and hand them out as they have been. We've seen this movie before.

A strong and united revolt makes it way easier to control from the outside. The people become the front lines for their own interest.
Free free to name one time we meddled with regime change when there weren't images of people in that country celebrating in the streets.

You are biased and blinded by your pre determined opinions of American leadership.
We all have biases. This would be like saying the Political Board would be celebrating the whole thing if this had happened during the Biden administration and educating us about the Monroe Doctrine and how cool and important the Monroe Doctrine is.

Are you trying to say we SHOULDN'T have helped free a nation because that can be hard? You should share this opinion with citizens of Venezuela.
Trump supporters went from "we should stop being the world police" to "we should have great compassion for oppressed people in far off places" in 5 seconds.
quote:
"I only care about America's best interest when it saves the lives of communists and cartel members"
This is just silly. I care because a head of state was kidnapped, and that might be a slippery slope.
Also, "communist" these days is just a boogeyman for Trump supporters when Trump acts like a globalist, a convenient throwback to the Cold War playobook. Venezuela is communist?

I would've gone with "a really fricked up kleptocracy," but your description works too and is way more truthful than "communist."

America First baby!
We must protect the world's largest oil reserves in order to stop all these drugs from coming into our country.

Do you actually think protecting a defenseless nation is the same as going to war with an established enemy?

I know we do. I'm actually trying to agree with you as far as how things could go wrong. But that would require some type of middle ground. Your opinion without acknowledging the good things is just a joke. Acting like everything that happened is a bad thing makes you come off as petty and its hard to take seriously.

It is about American interest vs China/ Russia. It is more about them not having the oil than the US having the oil. The clear picture is to keep American interest throughout the Western Hemisphere. That goes far beyond a simple statement of "its about oil".
I don’t understand why people can’t read between the lines and see this is what has taken place. Also, good to see this is the narrative that is now being pushed by the admin. I still want China destroyed for what they did with COVID. Everyone seems to gloss over the fact that they have ultimately suffered minimal repercussions for what they did. I despise them as a nation.

Yeah it’s incredible how their actions have been swept under rug

Few people want to admit what America is really standing for in this situation. No doubt we "freed" Venezuela by taking one guy. Not a bad thing when held in isolation. Got rid of a dictator yada yada.
To the rest of the world we basically committed every stereotype they say of America by attacking another country outside of accepted rules of war for the purpose of securing oil. It looks just like Iraq again. Easy to blame Trump because he is president but it isn't him. Just the way the US operates.
We haven't done this for the last 15-20 years because until this year it wasn't obvious that Venezuela didn't need the US. We made importing Venezuelan crude illegal this time last year and Venezuela didn't give a frick, they found other outlets that didn't care about US sanctions. US needed a new plan. That is what this is.

The amount of bioterrorism China commits against the US would shock most people, but for whatever reason, it's not widely publicized. Thank China the next time you pay a dollar per lemon.
