US Military x 10000

All that is null and void because the US military has a built in fail safe. They wont attack American Civilians.

And as long as they wont attack civilians, civilians wont fight back.

Okay. The military also has aircraft tanks and military grade weapons.

My point is that civilians have hunting weapons vs war machines.

You also assume a military of citizen soldiers would follow orders and take arms against their own.

Military vs Civilians is likely to never happen.

Civilians would win in the end.

2 million vs. 300 million, it would be a simple numbers game.

The US Military would not survive the eventual guerrilla warfare without going straight to nuclear or chemical warfare.

I agree with whomever posted earlier though, military would take out government trying to start war.

I don't believe this. They have some things, like full auto, available that most civilians don't. But I would bet many of the civilian owned AR's are light years ahead of the average lowest bidder Military AR

First off AR's are pretty much mil spec, so where they procured them means nothing. Second AR's and pistols are the least amount of firepower in the military arsenal, even on a firearm aspect.

The absolute only thing civilians have for them is guerrilla warfar and numbers, but we arent as embedded into the countryside, nor do we have the existing fortifications in comparison to lets say Afghanistan or iraq...

How much actual combat time do you have? because many many in that 2 mil have plenty.

Its not going to be like huntin with diddy where you put corn on the ground and the deer walks up and you blaze away then go get drunker at the camp.

Probably been covered, but it has come up again in light of recent events and gun grabber rhetoric

Who wins?

US Military - 2 million

Roughly 60 millions households have at least one weapon. Over 300 million registered gun in civilian hands

ETA: it is unlikely to ever happen, and I hope it doesn't

If civilians get to draft police to their side then civilians win. If military gets to draft the police then its a 15 year war that Russia or some other country wins.

The reason Japan never invaded the US during World War 2 was because Japan was worried that too many civilians owned guns which would make it an impossible task.

That’s the reason huh?

This premise only matters if it's a straight ground war. Man to man, gun to gun.

Military has artillery, bombs, air support, and other explosive ordnance that would decimate the civilian population.

Exactly, the idea that a bunch of inbred country bumpkins could stop trained professional and very well equipped soldiers because they hunt and shoot all the time is a fricking pipe dream.

Don't sell that pipe dream to the Afghans who bone sheep or the Vietnamese rice heads, no way those backwoods farmers could beat superpowers with nukes, tanks, and air superiority.

Great point...I would add that some of the 300 Million civilians have combat time.

Right now, there are approximately 2.1 million retired military personnel in the civilian population, with a forecast of 2.2 million in the next 10 years.

U.S. Forecast Retired Military Personnel

Also, remember how many of the U.S. Military are deployed in other countries. Even though it is at a 60-year low, there are currently 200,000 U.S. troops abroad.

U.S. Active Troop Deployment

Also...in the 2 Million number cited, only 1.4 million are active...so the question would be which side the remaining reserve troops would fight. Roughly 38% of the military is made up of National Guard and Reserve troops.

Also...with us looking alike, speaking the same language, and with the same background...it would be super hard for the military to weed out collaborators infiltrating the military ranks.

That guy is dumb because he forgets the primary goal in any invasion force, AIR POWER.

The military will rule the skies and just have to sit nice on the 7 Carrier groups divided by coastline.

Run sorties for days and reduce that 60 mil to 500k in a month.

This is of course if they want to completely ruin America. Because as soon as the population drops below 10 mil, Russia and China will move in and end us all.

Just like they did in Iraq or Afghanistan?

Your comment is just plain wrong. Look at how bogged down they are fighting foreigners. Do you believe that the military would just wipe away other Americans?

I doubt either side would win. Short term the military has the advantage, but in the long run there are too many armed civilians. These civilians are the ones who built and maintain the infrastructure. They would know what had be be done to knock out bridges, water plants, refineries, electrical grid, etc.

It would be awful, last for YEARS and America would probably never recover.

Except they were far more fortified and trained than people in the US.

I mean we have people that get participation trophies and most buildings are built out of plywood, sheetrock or tin.
