Well, from 36,000 feet the view to the horizon with perfectly clear visibility would be 230 miles.
Louisiana is only 379 miles N to S. Flying over Alexandria at typical airline cruising altitudes you should have no trouble seeing the entire state. Honestly its really only applicable at night usually because you can pick out the major cities due to the concentration of streetlights.

Always wanted to ask and forgive my ignorance...could you commercial pilots hop into a smaller aircraft like a Bonanza or Cessna and crank it right up and fly it? Or would you have to go through training for the particular aircraft?
In other words, could you walk in your local regional or municipal strip...crank up a plane, and take off? Again, maybe a stupid question...just curious.

The cockpit looks the same as the one I fly now. Well, I'm qualified on it. I hardly ever fly it anymore. I stick to the bus as much as possible.
Looks nothing like the H models I grew up on though.

Pretty much - but we’d have to be “current” in single engine planes per the FAA’s guidelines on recent experience.
No idea how the military side of things works, but everyone else did all our initial training in airplanes like that and worked our way up. I’ve got ~2000 hours in Cirrus, Cessna, and Piper aircraft, for reference. Some have more, some have less. We can all fly them… just can’t do it legally unless we’ve got some recency.
