Kind of been waiting for us to go after the people fricking up our country vs some frick sticks in Iran.

I guess the point is that we went over to kick Iraq out of Kuwait and we stayed in the region for nearly three decades. Oil became WMD, WMD, became the Taliban, then ISIS, then “democracy”…and all that’s assuming it doesn’t turn into a proxy war with China, Russia and North Korea who will most certainly be arming them. I think the cost of this would be way more than you think.
I mean, Iraq invaded Kuwait to cut off the West's oil supply, Desert Storm was in response to take it back(and to prevent an Iraqi invasion of Saudi, which would have dominoed into them taking control of the entire middle east and effectively the world's petroleum supply), narratively at least. Also concerns(probably credible) over potential drainage may have played a part IIRC, by both Iran and KSA. And tbf to Iraq, they did get absolutely railroaded in the Ottoman partition
The entire thing is a racket, notice the contracts awarded to Chinese & Russian petro majors. Christ, the Iraq-Iran war was manufactured to trade weapons for oil and destabilize the region
WMD's were simply the excuse used to justify the intervention, it was always over natural resources. But I guess you could you say oil is a WMD as cutting off supply effectively destroys a nation

lol. Yeah, that’s why Cuba, teetering on the brink of collapse, mass emigration ongoing, has had their sanctions kept in place, even ratcheted up.
Same goes for Venezuela. They’re run by a communist dictator, currency collapsed, population collapsed, mass emigration. 25% of the country has fled over the last decade. All over Latin America—75% of the remaining faces mass hunger, losing an average of ~20lbs by 2017 following the currency collapse. We’ve got legions of their illegals here now, yet we still crushing them with sanctions.

I think we have a say collectively.
If we the people make it crystal clear that we have no interest in an oil war in friggin’ 2025, and waging one will cost every congress critter who voted for it his/her job, it’s going to be challenging to get that passed.

Let’s say I concede these points…that the first Gulf War was necessary for the economic survival of the West and even the 30-ish year long military presence under [insert pretext of the year] was worthwhile to secure our own interests.
It was still hella expensive. Thousands of American lives, maybe a trillion in total spending? And that’s just us, not counting the Europeans or the Iraqis.
It’s reasonable to question whether any of it was worth it.
In 2025, our military presence is about what it was prior to Gulf War I. The region is still a powder keg and we’re fine.
Also in 2025, we’ve gotten along for over a decade without tons of Venezuelan oil. We’re also a net exporter of the stuff.
I understand we’ve done crap like this in the past, but invading Venezuela for oil is a terrible solution to a non-existent problem.

Why would we do that? All you need to do is get rid of Maduro and some of their Dollar Tree military leaders loyal to him.

And in this case, the man calling the shots isn’t losing sleep over public opinion. His base is like the diet coke that takes the shape of whatever glass he's holding that day. If he wants a war he'll have it.

We shouldn’t invade. Just air strike and missile strike his military supporters.

My father in law took his entire family to Lafayette 6 months after Chavez took power. Writing was all over the wall to him. He knew a coon arse from Carencro that worked in drilling fluids that was willing to hire him and let his family stay with him for 6 months. He went back maybe twice. Once to bury his mother and once to help his cousin get back on his feet.

Fair point on Congress.
On Trump however, if he cares about anything it’s what his base thinks of him. They’ll turn on him in an instant if he starts a war abroad while normal Americans are struggling at home economically. It would also be him doing a complete 180 on a “core tenant” of both of his administrations, which he really hasn’t done.
But let’s say he does, who’s going to fight in his dumb war? Military retention has struggled every year for the past several years (with the exception of this one I think). Nobody is going to re-up to go to Venezuela for oil and as I said, it’s going to be expensive. If congress doesn’t approve it, where does that money come from? He’s not an idiot and he absolutely knows this would be an economic , logical and operational shite show.
This is just saber rattling. He doesn’t want a war with Venezuela or anyone really. He wants to force concessions. This is his go-to move. He either wants favorable trade terms or he wants Venezuela to allow us to dump migrants there. Or both.

I've been waiting on the Black Ops: Regime Change DLC pack for the War on Drugs 2.0(tm)!
I never thought it would be out before GTA 6.

Used to work with a guy from Venezuela. His dad was a petroleum engineer. The Chinese have taken over Venezuela's oil industry and are running it with Chinese labor. Maduro is in bed with the cartels and Venezuela, once the richest country in South America, is now a fourth world shithole. His parents couldn't leave unless they abandoned everything and arrived penniless.
Trump is going after the cartels and Maduro, but he is also going after China. China needs that oil.

The new ones took land that was owned by generation of family owned farms and ranches. So poorly run the communist dictator went to drugs and sipped out millions of Americans.
Time to put profitable ranching and farming close to the US and kill off the Csrtels.

We are ramping up the fear amongst the people close to Maduro that they are going to die for that guy.
While offering a $50,000,000 bounty on his head. While annihilating seaborn drug traffic completely.
What do you think is happening?
