I’d stay away from the uber cheap brands. In that price range Justin/Tony Lama or Tecovas is a good choice for just regular wear. I prefer leather soles only though.

I may go talk to a local repair shop and see what he says.

I'll probably get a new pair regardless.
If possible I'd seek out vintage new old stock pairs from the following makers: Nocona, Tony Lama, Dan Post and Lucchese (handmade or classics). Some old Justin's were also good quality builds but some were absolute junk.
As mentioned Anderson Bean is a pretty good boot and I always encourage people to look into the Capitan brand due to its entry level pricing but traditional construction.
Your Leon Mexico made makers like Tecovas and Cuadra can be of good quality, but be aware that these assembly line, mass produced boots can also be of inferior quality.

Tecovas look like Mexican, not western boots. Dan Post or Luccesse look much better. So do Bean and Justin. Leddy if you have the money.

At least most of their offerings don't have that cheap looking machine embroidered or corded designs so common on Mexican made boots.

I'm aware that Leddy does offer a premade "rack" boot in common sizes, however the availability and selection of that line is not as easily sourced for your average boot buyer.
Leddy if you have the money.

They are quality but unless he is patient (or lucky) may be hard to find what he likes at the price point that he seeks.

Can’t go wrong with Anderson Bean. Some of them can be pricey but they are worth it. If you want to go a little cheaper, check out Horse Power Top Hand collection. They are made by the same company as Anderson Bean.
I got a pair of the Doc from Tecovas. I’ve had them for 3 years and they have held together pretty well.
Also got a pair of Tony Lama’s I bought a couple months ago but they are in Suede. Them and the Anderson Bean are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned.

Well I’m neither of these and wear Tecovas… most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn. Sorry you can’t afford them

I prefer Rios of Mercedes, but that is a little above your price point.
I’d look at their sister companies: Anderson Bean, Olathe or Horse Power.

Watch out for Chinese made Ariats, Tecovas aren't built as well since they got popular

My Tecovas Caiman leather.
Super comfortable and I like them a lot.

Seems to me you’d have to be one or the other to care what another man wears.

Not to start a war here, but am I the only one that hasn't switched to square toe boots? I know it's a preference and I don't care which one you like. I is just starting to piss me off that when i go to a boot store, I can't find any traditional round/point toes anymore. And if you are shopping for steel toe it's even worse. I hate to order a pair of boots online without being able to try them one, but at least in the BR area, if you don't want square toe, its damn near the only option.

I prefer round toe but it’s so hard to find them. I’ve made the switch over to snip and cutter (narrow square) toes, and I like their looks over wide square toes.
