Moral of story - Maybe replacing fridges every 3-7 years is new normal?
I hope not.

i like my kitchen aid, it has the ice maker built on the door with the dispenser, no frost build up

Had a GE from the 1990s.Compressor on it died. It was cheaper to buy a new one and we bought a Frigidaire. Had it for almost 2 years now with no problems. Bought it from a local dealer that has its' own service staff, not just one guy from Chatanooga.

We've been wanting an extra anyway, so it works out that way.
That's a high end extra. You can get a decent sized deep freezer for under $500. Getting a new fridge for the house is going to be at least $800, but in seeing what brands you gravitate towards more like $1,200.

What if I want to look in my fridge without opening it? What if I want to check Facebook while getting some ice?

Miele or Thermador if you have no budget restrictions. For 3k that Frigidaire side by side is pretty impressive if you’ve got the space to house it. Whirlpool Gold is the overall economy choice
What Frigidaire? Can you give me a model number or link, please?

16 year old Frigidaire, no issues .

The answer is an undercounter icemaker, but most of you are too cheap.

20 year old Kitchen Aid side by side with water/ice dispenser. No issues at all.
Not sure what we would purchase when the Kitchen Aid stops working.
