Everything is subjective with regards to quality of life. That's why it's a constant topic on this board.

Some of the plans and projections I've heard for the next decade will be mind-blowing.

I hear you. I think I would have to reevaluate my life if my QoL depended on being 5 minutes from mass produced consumer goods though.

Was fortunate to follow his advice as the commute has become longer for those living outside of the Charlotte city limits.
I feel for anyone living in the Davidson area who has to take 77 going into the city. Traffic is brutal there every time I have ever driven through it.

Would help if those toll lanes weren’t on about year 10 of construction

What about 5 minutes from a botanical garden, amusement park, art museum, and streetcar ride? That was just one morning before naptime.

I'll take a nice cabin in the middle of 300 acres please.

quote:Sure, there will be a drop in the overall number of workers.
Once all the mega projects are done you won’t have the same level of employment at the sites, and all the construction workers will move on to the next project.
But, there will be a permanent increase in good-paying jobs for people that will be staying here and keeping their money here, unlike the construction workers who send a lot of their income to wherever they're from to support their families.
There's also good reason to think that the area is far from done in announcing major projects. There's a lot of opportunities for other industries to utilize the byproducts created from the mega projects.

If that floats your boat, knock yourself out.

To each his own...
I could not fathom having to drive an hour to the grocery store or several hours from top medical care. There is a trade off for everything.

Does it bother anyone else that DC metro is outgrowing most in both population and wealth despite not having a major Fortune 500 HQ presence?
Our tax dollars are building a nicer, better city with higher paid workers than the towns we live in.

Just don't get the traffic and constant struggle people are willing to do for the suburban life.
Generally that's because they have children and most inner city schools suck.

And that's why we currently live 15 minutes from her office and under ten from mine.
The minute she can get a remote job we're gone. I had planned to move back to my hometown of Huntsville, but rethinking that one now.

yeah it seems like we keep getting more major projects. with ares like EBR being anti-industry, we should be pretty solid for more expansions and what not

Charleston keeps rolling in awards as the best city to travel to in the nation, best overall city etc...
Those awards have very little validity.
I mean, come on...Charleston the best city to travel to? Best overall city? Not even close.
Charleston has a TON of issues working against it.

No way! That is Mormon clique central. It sucks. If you're going to live in Utah live in Park City, Salt Lake, or St. George.
