re: What happened to Best Buy?

I bought a laptop today from Best Buy. Ordered online, they said they would notify me when it was ready for pick up (Metairie Veterans store). Hour or so later got an email saying it was ready for pickup. Drove over, entered store, went to pickup counter, showed him the code on my phone to the guy behind the counter, he said he’d be right back, thirty seconds later he reappeared, gave me package, walked out the store to my car.
I was in the store less than five minutes. Couldn’t have been any easier.

In person shopping in general has become a huge hassle. All the stores are understaffed and self-check out is such a pain and disorganized.
I was at 5 Below recently and they have a bunch of self-checkout stations. I went to use one and was stopped by the employee saying I have to do the scanning for you...then why have self-checkout stations?

BB already peaked decades ago. I would not be surprised if they start closing stores around.

Their employees suck! Affirmative action at work

I used to love going to the one in Monroe. Employees there were cool and very helpful.
The last few years it has gone downhill. The girl at the register was lost, the other employees were just walking around.
One guy was very knowledgeable and that was about it.
I guess scam-azon is about to take them out too.

Yeah I personally don't have any issues with best buy

I never go to BB, just order most things on Amazon. But I had time so I stopped in yesterday and they had the monitor my kids wanted for $40 cheaper than what I was going to pay on Amazon. So I’m happy I saved $80 and will check in more often for electronics.

Went to BB during Covid. They wouldn't allow me in unless I made an appointment (had a mask).
Only been back once to recycle some Dish Network boxes.

Only thing I hate is they quit selling 4k blu-rays and blu-rays in store.
Yep. This is when it really started going downhill. I've always enjoyed purchasing physical media to keep on my shelves. BB had a great library of blu rays.

You should see the closet they put the Houma Best Buy in. It is probably the smallest store in the chain and they lacked showroom space for appliances and other things most larger Best Buy’s kept on display and in storage for purchase in the early days. Now as computer and TV sales have fallen, they did manage to squeeze a small appliance section in the store, but most are order only and will take a few days to come in for pick up or delivery.
Back in the early 2000’s as Best Buy and Circuit City was expanding into every market in the country. Circuit City announced they were moving into a new development next to Target in Houma. With MLK, developments back in the day built with 100% occupancy before turning dirt. So that left Best Buy to try to find a location that was vacant. They chose a vacant part of the former Service Merchandise, that was recently subdivided and a Bed Bath and Beyond moved in. Eventually another part of the Service Merchandise ended up being a Texas Roadhouse much later.
When the store opened, there were long lines especially for the holidays, and it felt cramped going in there. Inventory has always been a flip of a coin if they had it or if you were headed to Metairie for the same item. Good thing now inventory is listed online. I always felt the store was too small, but as Amazon and Walmart improved some of their electronics offerings despite also losing Kmart and Sears in the 2010’s, Best Buy continued to whither on the vine.
Now the parking lot sits empty, it is only full when Texas Roadhouse is open. Good luck finding a spot at 6 or 7 pm when the spot is rocking that bro country.
Now that Bed Bath and Beyond is gone, Cavenders moved in that space and Boot Barn moved in across MLK in the old Office Depot that never reopened after Ida.
Funny how one type of business moves in and their competitors follow the same expansion. Heck same thing happened with Breastrants when Twin Peaks moved in and Hooters followed. Hooters got the better end of the deal in a better central location. Twin Peaks shut down only after a few years and sat vacant until Aldi bought the property and built a store there.

I bought a tv from there yesterday and they delivered it for free on the same day.

Tbh, I'd rather deal with BB's cell phone salespeople than going to the Verizon or t-mobile store....

You screwed up…good luck getting the first order cancelled. You should have just picked one up and said you’re taking this one. They would have figured it out.

That’s basically what it was like walking into a Lids twenty years ago. There I am standing in 400 ft mall space looking at hats while 3 different employees walk up me trying to sell me something.

We in to BB to pick up an online order today, first time in many years. I was surprised at how busy it was.

I remember being excited to go Best Buy 4-5 years ago.
It was an exciting store to visit in the late-90s/early 00s when you had to get physical media and Wal-Mart refused to carry music with explicit content.
