Are we expected to sneeze into the mask or take it off to sneeze? Neither seems productive.

And even that still greatly reduces the transmission chances.

Why are places that have had mask mandates for weeks or months also seeing a rise in cases?

It is frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be any talk about at what point restrictions and things like mandated mask will be lifted. There has to be some kind of time frame or numbers threshold in which mandatory masks, no crowds at sporting events, etc, will change. But all we hear is that this is the new normal.

With this virus things change as more is learned about it. Viruses are dynamic particles . Very difficult to study and understand. Humans are fallible and often have different opinions.
To deal with the constant changes in our knowledge the only constant is change. You have to be prepared to change.

Because people don't follow them or don't wear them properly, among other factors. Not hard to figure out

Ok well if antibodies are that temporary, in that case a vaccine would be very unlikely to work. So how long are we supposed to stay wearing masks, distancing etc?

There in lies the rub. Do you know anyone who has had COVID more than once?

To be honest, we probably should have been wearing masks all along when any kind of contagion was going around. If we would have done that, this whole thing would be a non-issue. Of course, the political aspects of this event are not helping...at all.

Then he will just blame infections on those who didn’t wear the masks.

Then we will know true freedom again. The freedom to go out in public while only being mandated to cover ~25% of my body instead of ~30%.

So you don't believe science?

Downvoters apparently think surgeons don't need to wear masks. It's possible to think these mandates are stupid without going full retard, you know.
One is in a sterile environment. the other is in a world full of germs without open wounds and touching the masks making it worse. You can't see because your nose is in the way.

Don’t worry; the virus will mysteriously go away after elections.

It ain't just masks............. It's a bunch of things they do and don't do. Keep touching your mask all day and touching things all around the world. And then keep thinking that petri dish mask is not full of germs. Do you have a clue what they do besides the mask? Do you realize how much washing and scrubbing they do before surgery? And on top of that they still get staph. No mask will cure our ills.

Thank You! In a lab they can prove an ant can lift an elephant, but my $ is on the elephant every time. The real world is not a lab nor are humans hard-wired to be germaphobes if anything the exact opposite Is true & survival of the fittest is nature’s way. This is the most honest/rational assessment of the whole mask controversy I’ve seen from anyone in the medical profession...of course I’m sure he’s been crucified on the side of the road somewhere by now:
quote: “Your very breath ...provides warm bacterial moisture. Plus, the moisture helps many particles actually stick to and collect on the mask.... perfect breeding ground for germs, bacteria, and viruses If a so called asymptomatic person is wearing his mask to protect others, he or she is literally creating a covid bomb on their face. In a lab you may prove that a mask can reduce the spray of droplets. The real world is not a lab and in a dumb population where people have little clue about how to wear a properly fitted mask, how to handle a mask, how to sanitize a mask and how to store a mask.....they are a hazard and a risk to spread Covid-19 and a whole host of other nasties.” ...
