I also thought about that episode of Parks and Rec when I heard this story.

I think the OP is specifically mocking this TikTok dude who has predicted that the Rapture will take place on today or tomorrow (Sept. 23/24).

Giving OP way too much credit

Maybe so, I wasn’t paying attention to who the OP is. Still, I think the thread is primarily focused on the TikTok dude.

Isn’t the concept of a rapture a relatively recent creation that isn’t really supported by the biblical text anyway?

I guess if it happens today I’ll have to eat some crow here in the post apocalyptic wasteland. Figuratively and literally.

My grandfather legitimately believes that he will not die, but will be taken up as part of the rapture.

Like legit gets PISSED when anyone brings up end-of-life/post-death issues to consider because he fully believes humanity won't exist after he's gone.

Yes and no.

Like most things in life, there are nuances and interpretations that have to be analyzed.

He may believe that, but it's probably not a "legitimate belief."

Even for the low bar I have for you, this is pretty weak.

He's trying to tell you that even though your grandfather is a staunch believer in something, TBoy doesn't buy it for ... reason..

Close. The odds of any presently living person leaving this Earth as a result of the actual rapture are likely the same as for any person who lived in the last 2,000 years.

You maybe should have used different words if that was what you were trying to say. Because the words you chose don't mean that.

Pretty much. Like in the last hundred years or so, along with all the Dispensationalism.

My bro in law is waaay deep into this stuff. He's had 3-4 of these dates pinned in the last 20 years. Loves numerology in the Bible, thinks everything in the Bible is literal, etc. Btw, those last 2 things are absolutely incongruent. The Hebrew culture holds that numbers have strong symbolic meaning, such as 7, 12, 144K (12x12K), and such.

We've decided to stop talking about it because he knows I think he's an idiot.

Dude, people have "believed" that they are living in the Biblical end of days since the very creation of the concept of the end of days. It may be a belief but there is nothing to legitimate the belief. That's always been the case. Sorry you have difficulty understanding words.
