Why do people keep talking about driving somewhere? That's not going to happen. Ya'll need to figure out what you're gonna do where you live now.

there would be roving bands of criminals in the sticks,
I live at the end of a dead end road on 30 acres. Surrounded by forest. First thing I'd do is block the road and string up a couple of these "criminals" above after I intro'd them to my .30 cal. I think the message would be clear.

Like Booga says above, regardless of how you city/suburb folks think, we are in alot better shape to deal w outage out here in the boonies.

tell us why chrome daddy....what is going to happen where we cant drive

emp-nope...80-90% of cars uneffected as would things like cell phones and generators

solar flair....nope

carrington event- nope

there was the super event in 775 that was about 20x larger than the 1859 carrington event so that is one possibility.

but frick a once in 2000 year or more event....yea not worried.

Or be killed by those criminals, the more likely route if there are a bunch of them.

But again, right at the outset, unless you live in a really shitty area, that would be the least of your concerns.

also even carrington events only take out certain areas. Look at the 1989 event. and even then in quebec where the direct hit was...power was only out for 9 hours

and also the fastest carrington event still took 14.5 hours to reach earth. the 1989 storm the flare happened on march 6th.....first CME happened on the 10th then again on the 12th.

so why would we lose ability to drive?

and whats gonna cause the whole worlds grid to go down?

It's just amazing how this keeps spinning out of control. The OP said a couple of weeks. We aren't going prehistoric in that time frame.

Also, why is everyone abandoning the country and forming tribes? We are all Americans. We would ban together and find a way. People lived without power for centuries and we still have tons of technology and conveniences without. We wouldn't lose power forever. Yes, there would be isolated crime and horrific acts. But criminals would be taken out swiftly due to martial law.

People are romanticizing something that will never happen..

Think NOLA after Katrina, but no one was prepared, no one evacuated and no one is coming to help.

Hmmmm....do all willow trees contain salicylic acid? I've had natural aspirin supplements before but they always contained white willow bark only which is a totally different type of willow than what we have here in LA?

also if it was solar flare we would have days notice more than likely and minumum of 12 hours.

like i said, getting in the car and driving to a place that has power.

He didn't say lasting 2 weeks. He said he read an article that said people would start dying in 2 weeks.

We're aware, it's a message board proposing an interesting doomsday type scenario. That's it, no reason to read much more into it, just take the OP for what it is.

Who are you calling to let know that criminal broke that crime?

Good points. A lot depends on the extent and severity of the outage locally.

Where my family lives in the country there’s an area a little less than half a mile long along the highway that would need to be secured and patrolled, but given the layout it could be done well with checkpoints on each end, maybe another in between. Otherwise the whole area of about 8-10 homes is bordered by swamp or thick woods, with access trails we cut and maintain all around. Pretty much all likeminded people for the most part.

So out forever? We'd never have the ability to create or generate electricity again?

It's taking a simple thing and taking it to the extreme. Total breakdown of society and the apocalypse. That doesn't happen just from losing electricity.

Society. People will still follow the law and rules in general. There will still be people to enforce them. Is everybody just totally abandoning any former identity in this new imaginary world?

All those billions we pay these Gov Agencies etc..yearly to train and prepare for worst case scenario's do just the opposite when they are called on in disaster situations. This we have learned. Basically saying you better have a plan because the Government sure as help don't.

My buddy and I have a 40 foot sailboat. It’s well stocked. Figure if we can make it to the coast we could just cruise a few miles offshore for a while. That’s my plan.

My father's retirement present to himself was a 50+ ft sailboat that is his second home about 4 hours drive for me. The diesel would get it out of the marina and offshore but in this kind of scenario, doubt there would be any fuel to get back. I would have to loot a Barnes and Noble on the way down to Savannah for a Sailing 101 book.

I can fish like a mofo though, no worries there. But as another poster pointed out, not having fresh water is a real drag. Might actually have to stay inshore and make dinghy runs with the tide up into brackish and replenish that way.

Not having my medications would also suck pretty bigly. I wouldn't die instantly, but I wouldn't be living very long.

No, but the looting and general chaos would probably be about the same.

It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. Watch The Carrington Event on Youtube. It will eventually occur naturally.

It’s funny people think that one person with one gun thinks they would last more that ten minutes against two are three trained people. Remove your television mindset. Your stationary fortifications would be on fire and would be outflanked and killed pretty quickly.
