My initial plan was to kill them and take their food supply. Have since changed that plan.
I bet that was the neighbor’s plan too.

Immediately create an alliance within the HOA and remove the by-law about growing crops for food. We can likely annex the smaller DR Horton neighborhood nearby if we had too

I bet that was the neighbor’s plan too.
Him and neighbor shoot each other, maybe he "wins" and the neighbor dies immediately but now he has a gunshot wound or 2 he can't heal and he slowly dies of infection.
Great plan, what could go wrong!!!

quote:Exactly this. And I bet if anyone replied, it would be something along the lines of, "I'd just kill them" which is just funny that it's always assumed you're going to win that battle with no issue whatsoever.
When u guys that have a bug out spot like a hunting camp discover it's already occupied, what are u going to do?

You'd better find them now or you'll likely be dead before you can carry out much of your plan. Bad people already have packs of like-minded people and as soon as law and order breaks down, they'll be hunting.
I guess it could depend on where you live too. I live in the burbs of North Texas. If there were a bad group of people, they're more than likely a group that doesn't have the survival skills as a good part of North Texas, so they probably get taken out well before they find my insulated neighborhood.

With lead time to get on the road ahead of a "reported" EMP/grid failure coming = I'm 4 hours from my island (inherited from grandfather) by sail boat. It's 3 miles in any direction from another island.
I've got medium livestock, fowl, & fresh well water (both with a solar + a hand pump) along with rain collection. All the fishing tackle, gill nets, & cast nets to last at least 10 years. 6 Containers modified modified into 3 separate living quarters, a bonus space, & dry storage. Have fire arms ready for "defense blind" use every couple 100 yards. 8 kayaks/paddle sets + 2 additional 1 person sailboats from abandoned marinas that I've moderately fixed up with "duct tape & glue" that are enough for getting a little off the island to fish away from the beaches. I do need to get some spare sails for backups.
So long as the ice bergs don't melt = my wife, kids + their spouses, & grandsons are set for as long as I don't screw something up.

Go to supermarket 5 minutes away with bolt cutters and buy/take every propane tank on site for my tri fuel generator. Then hook up the yeti goal zero solar. I’ve got at least 6 months food supply on hand, probably more.
It would honestly probably be the best thing that could happen to the United States at this point. The major metro lib shithole cities would absolutely implode. I think you’d have to block all inflow and outflow of traffic just to be sure you confine it.

I would protect my home best I could. I live rural so hopefully that would help. I have some Patriot buckets, dry beans and rice, lots of dry goods and canned goods, life straws and solar power in multiple forms. A decent stock of ammo. My buddy down the road has a water well also.

Well, frick. I hope I'm not in Bozeman for the day when this all goes down.

Nice way to miss the point. Let's say it is one deer a month with your endless supply of potatoes, vegetables and rice. How long do you get to play Snow White with your deer herd?
After the majority of people die off in a few months the guy you’re replying to wouldn’t be competing with anyone at all for food. He might have to travel a little further or eat more squirrels or birds but eventually that deer population would flourish again. And it really wouldn’t take that long. If you can make it the first 6 months in this scenario you would end up having a pretty easy time just surviving. The hard part is outlasting the majority of the people that can’t make it that long.

My buddy and I have a 40 foot sailboat. It’s well stocked. Figure if we can make it to the coast we could just cruise a few miles offshore for a while.
Offshore is a decent idea that most people don't consider. Water would be your primary concern and a bad storm could ruin you pretty fast

I'd choose a local Island. We have thousands and most are even bear free, which a huge plus.

Alaska would be tough but kind of ideal if you could manage to get a shelter up on one of those islands. Catch a few fish and cure/cold smoke them. I could probably survive for a long time... Problem I would run into is being wrong place wrong time. If I were down on my parents land I think I could survive. Freshwater pond. A well. Plenty of wildlife and plenty of extended family around to band together. Maybe my job would be to raid the international market and bring that if I can make it out the city. They have 40lb bags of rice and flour and tortillas by the case.

We also don't consider access to medication, and not just for the injured/sick. Sure you could probably hoard the basics, but its seems like most middle-upper class people today are taking some medication/prescription that is important to their daily well-being and/or blood pressure, mental health, anxiety, etc. When those medications run out it won't be good, even if you survive. Not to mention all the middle-aged men on TRT that can't naturally produce testosterone anymore.

Plenty of game, fish, edibles. No outside access except via water and air, mild maritime influence on climate...
My downfall would be medicine. I just started a new drug (2 years) and wouldn't have access to it. SO too much effort is probably futile.

Oh no. Survival instincts will kick in and you'll have roving bands of pirates cruising around like locusts.
If we're talking 8-12 weeks I think my best chance is to try to hunker down in my basement. I have a 3 month food supply at home that I believe I could defend as long as my neighborhood joins together. Also got a couple solar panels that I could rig up for some energy when needed. Water would be my biggest concern as it doesn't rain much here in UT, but I do have filtration systems. Most of the mormon community here has been stocking up their whole lives so my hope is that we would have fewer unprepared roving gangs than most places.
