Most of the mormon community here has been stocking up their whole lives so my hope is that we would have fewer unprepared roving gangs than most places.
I don't know, man, the Mormons are pretty well-known for roving around neighborhoods.

I worked with some Mormons and it is true. They have stock piled supplies in caves for years. The problem would be to get to where the caves are.

About 90% of this board would die.

There would be riots and murder over food and supplies after the 1st few days.

Anyone with a significant medical history requiring certain medications would die.

Millions dead within the first few weeks.

You have a 3 month food supply for yourself.

It dwindles to nothing once your neighbors find out.

Most homes aren’t prepared for a severe storm, let alone have enough food for a few weeks.

The minute they note that you have and they don’t have, your life will be in danger.

Or, maybe it multiplies if times are tough enough.

Cannibalism would 100% happen.

People have this romanticized view of a fall.

It would be brutally awful.

Best case, some element of governmental control maintains enclaves.

Worst case is complete mayhem. Cities would be absolutely unsurvivable.

People can go weeks without food, but it’ll be the mental breakdown that will push them to doing horrible things far sooner than when starvation truly hits.

I mean, I have a route to family land planned out using backroads and avoiding major highways/cities for the most part, but it would require severe luck to pull off.

Even the seasonally hunting bugout crowd are likely doomed in short order.

Table topping a catastrophic event like that while utilizing conveniences and living dependently on things that would vanish probably wouldn't work as expected for a lot of them.

See my next sentence about the Mormons. Again hoping this area wouldn't have that problem, but you never know

My initial plan was to kill them and take their food supply. Have since changed that plan. He is a great hunter and also has a strong work ethic. We have agreed to watch out for each others family and realize we are stronger in numbers.

Little do you know, he’s quietly checking out what you have.

Don’t turn your back on him.??

The main thing people need to realize is all communication will be gone. Maybe if you have solar panels or a generator. You could operate a short wave radio. Maybe. But everyone would have to walk from where they are to where they want to be. All stores will be closed. Most highways would be totally covered with cars that will not run. All this I am from La. and I can hunt and fish is great. But you won't be able to live that way unless you are living in or near a wetland or forest. Gangs would be roaming the streets immediately.

I recall some think tank did a report on what would happen if the grid went down for an extended period.

The report concluded that cannibalism would commence in the big cities by day 13.

I'm not saying I would hunt people, but if people are coming all the way out where I live to steal food, it would have to be pretty bad. And if it's that bad, who am I to waste meat?

Strong survival skills would be required to last beyond a few weeks. The most violent, the most motivated will survive, not those who have a lot of stuff.

Yep. You better be prepared to do a lot of killing to survive. Every yahoo with a pistol or shotgun will be out gunning people down for a can of beenie weenies.

If you don’t think John the mild mannered accountant won’t shoot you to steal your food to feed his starving kids, you need to rethink things.
