Saw a special earlier today that mention wedge shots make up 63% of your shot in a round of golf. Perfect them and your score will drop.

For most people the quickest way to drop your score is to improve your chipping and putting. In all honesty it really depends on how you play. The next couple of rounds you play, keep track of GIR, fairways, and putts. You will see where a majority of your scoring is lost and begin to work on improving each aspects of your game.
For instance, if you are trying to break 100 and averaging 30-36 putts but only 2/18 GIR, it is likely your short game is not really your issue. You would probably be losing shots with bad drives, hitting OB, or shanking irons. Keep track of as much as you can (i.e. Lost balls, water hazards, fairways, putts, etc) and see where you think your could improve and work on that.

Most high handicappers are within 100 yards of the green in regulation. But then they flub a wedge, blade a bunker shot, duff a chip, and 3 jack it. That's when the scores balloon.
So, focus on solid contact with your wedges (which will improve your overall ball striking) and then practice the shite out of your short game.

it's pretty hard to putt for dough when you shank 2 drives OB off the box

Short game. I can get it near the green in 2-3 shots but from there it takes another 2-3 to get it near the hole

Short game. Chipping, putting, wedges.
Ever play with some old dude who drives it 200 yds, but puts it dead center every shot then 2 putts? Everybody likes to think driver, but bad golfers typically aren't good with it. Put it back in the bag. If you're not hitting GIR, why does it matter if you smash a 250 drive that's 60 yds off center.

What's the one type of shot to spend the most time working on to try to improve your overall score???

Short game bro. Chipping and putting. I play golf pretty regularly with guys that shoot upper 70's to low 80's consistently. 85 is a great day for me. I get off the the tee box and hit my long irons just as well if not better than they do. Difference is, when I blade a 56 degree, recover from that, then 3 putt from 15 feet, they're waiting on me to finish the hole. It's the hardest part of the game to practice bc, quite frankly, it's boring. But improved short game is the quickest way to shave strokes.

My grandpa
He's 73, plays 3 days a week and hits it dead center down the fairway every time even though it's 200-250. Consistently shoots 75-80.
I drive it 300 and am lucky to shoot under 100

Driver. Drive the green then it's just a matter of tapping it in.
But all b******* aside the most advantageous golfshot is the next shot. I find for me that if I go through my setup on every shot I play better. Step One is visualize the shot Step 2 pick a spot 8 inches in front the ball and swing at that. Step 3 never freeze over the ball always have movement.
Also play to your strengths if you find yourself more accurate with a club that you hit a hundred yards set up for that shot, instead of a 75-90 yard touch shot.

Chipping/putting no doubt, can save a lot of strokes by having a good short game

bingo. first really good advice in the thread so far. Spend a few rounds really tracking where your strokes are going and then you know where you stand. The truth is the fastest way to improve your score in golf is to improve whatever it is that causes you the most strokes to start with.
- If you are laying 3 in the fairway on every hole you will not score worth a damn ever.
- If you hit every green and 3 putt all of them, you will not score well ever.
Track your score and I mean take a small notepad out and write down how far you are on each shot and what club you hit and where it went. It is kind of like a food journal, until you see what your problems are you won't really realize what your problems are.

I'll go with the Jack Daniels shots after the round.
