1/9/13's results have left me semi nauseated, depressed, anger issues, and with a feeling of helplessness for over 2 years. I've had much worse acute symptoms from other things, but when the length of illness is considered?

My Uvula (the thing that hangs in the back of your throat) swelled one time while I was sleeping. Woke up gagging and unable to breathe as it restricted my airway. Wife called paramedics. While waiting I discovered I could breathe but only if I stayed standing with my head hunched over... That shite was seriously scary. Imagine waking up unable to breathe for 2 minutes. medics brought me to the hospital, epi-pen took care of it in 30 seconds The cause of the allergic reaction is still unknown. Haven't had another episode in 15 years...
Have you ever heard of breathing through your nose like most civilized people?

When I was around 11 or 12, our family rented a camp in Little Woods on Lake Pontchartrain for a week. This was around the late '70s (pre-cleanup). Got sick after a couple days of swimming in the lake and ended up throwing up 26 times in 2 days, plus the runs, and ended up with Scarlet Fever. After throwing up over the rails into the lake and flushing the toilets which emptied directly into the lake, it wasn't hard to realize why we got so sick. We had eaten spaghetti with meatballs and Italian sausage just before it hit us, and I don't think I ate that again for 20 years.

Got the "house virus" after moving into fraternity. I'll spare the details but ended up in a dark exam room at student clinic getting an IV the next day b

The 12 days I sent in Nam was horrible. I had the worst diarrhea and gas. I constantly had pains and runny shits all day. I stayed at a buddies house. He had three attractive female roommates and 2 bathrooms. You could hear those bathrooms in every area of the house. I used to sit and wait in agony until they would leave for work then explode the plumbing. Also there's no toilet paper in Nam. You have to literally shower the shite out of your arse when you're done. And going to the public toilets at bars and shite was absolutely disgusting.
Runner up:
The week I spent in Nicaragua. Like the time in Nam except I was puking at the same time and everything was pure liquid. Like shitting rubbing alcohol on fire.
American sickness:
The rediculous flu going around back in 08. Swine flu I think? Ran over a 102 fever for 3 days reached as high as 104. It was brutal and miserable.

One day before kids I walked out the door to go teach Sunday School and said by to my wife. After I got to the car my stomach turned. I went back to my apartment and told my wife I was out for the day and went straight to the bathroom and threw up. She kept getting ready and as she was about to walk out the door I heard her throwing up as well. It came out both ends the rest of the day.
The next 12 hours we just passed each other in the hallway crawling to the bathrooms and and we watched a boy meets world marathon in separate rooms.
My only guess is food poisoning.

Went to the ER on a Saturday for acute abdominal pain. Radiologist burst into the room after CT scan saying it is the most "ready to take out appendix" he had ever seen. 3.5 hours of surgery, 6 days in the hospital, about three weeks off of work. For the first few days, I was mostly out of it. Nurses kept coming in to meet me. I asked one of them why they did this and they said at every shift change they were told to "go meet the guy in 214. They usually don't survive this." Labs showed one side of the appendix was dead and rotted, and the body formed scar tissue around it into a cocoon, which eventually leaked evil juice into the abdomen. Surgeon was kind of pissy with my wife, said I almost died and this was the among the top three worst he has seen in 20 years.

guillain-barré syndrome
2 months ICU, another 3 months in rehab hospital(s).
Paralyzed from head to toe for months, had to learn how to walk/run/everything/etc again.
Now going on two years recovering.
Mono is what triggered it.
I would have gladly taken just the mono portion of the illness.

The flu I had over the Christmas holiday in 1994. I remember my fever hitting 104.7 then after that everything went blank. Turns out I was semi-conscious for about 24 hours. Strangest part of this flu was for about 2-3 months after it was gone, my sense of taste and smell were both totally fricked up. Nothing tasted or smelled right for a long time.

not a sickness, but a bowel Obstruction. Worst pain i've ever experienced.
Thought i was constipated or something, went to the ER when the pain got unbearable, an xray and an ambulance transfer later. Vomiting and pain killers for 14 hours until they could get me into an O.R.
I thought it was the end for The Dude.

That's where I got amoebic dysentery. Twice. But it lasted 3 weeks after coming back.

Got bit by a tick out in Colorado one summer, contracted Colorado Tick Fever. Had bad flu like symptoms for a week, it went away, then came back the next week worse. Sucks, but supposedly I get lifetime immunity
