My Dad always said you know because they will tell you
If his quality of life isn’t what it should be then it’s time

It’s such a hard decision because you want there to be that spark to change your mind
I hope you are able to find peace in your decision

Don't let him go out like that, you already know the answer.

So sorry, it sounds like time but that is so hard. Praying for your buddy and family.

I'm in the same position. Trying to determine if it's time.

Mine is 17, mostly blind. Half deaf. But still seems to have some life. But I can see the dementia there, just frozen in place some time and doesn't move for a while.

Sorry, man. I just put my 11 year old mini Aussie down a month ago. I've cried more over dogs in the life than anything else.

15.5 is a great life for a dog and sounds like he had it pretty good. Few things harder than saying goodbye to a dog but sounds like it's time.

Hard not to be selfish with our pets but it's best not to be selfish. That good boys quality of life isn't there anymore. So sorry bud.

I've seen a beagle climb a pecan tree one time.

Beagles are the most underrated athletes out of all the dog breeds imo.

Seems you've already made the decision. Just adding on to the rest here for a different perspective. Pets are truly the only creature alive that readily has the option for a peaceful painless death if we will just give it to them. Humans aren't even afforded the option in much of the world. There is no such thing as a graceful death in nature. Creatures all die of getting attacked by something else or by some other seemingly painful method. Euthanasia is human's gift to our pets. Take peace in knowing your friend never had to worry about food water or shelter and had the luxury of feeling secure in your environment. If you wait too long to make the decision, their death is accompanied by fear and anxiety. In-home euthanasia is the best thing for your pet to go care free into heaven.

It's the hardest thing to do, just had to do it with my 15 yo cat. He loved me and all he wanted to do was hang with me. Yep, I cried like a baby.......

Update:

Charlie's gone. He peacefully went to sleep around 4:00 today.

I called the two local in-home services but they couldn't schedule it before Monday. This couldn't wait til Monday.

The Kernersville Veterinary Hospital was able to do this for us today, and they were extremely nice and caring with us and Charlie. They had a nice think velvet blanket on the table when we got there and treats.. and the tissues ready.

We buried Charlie in our backyard.

I wanted to thank you all for your kind posts. It really did help a lot. A few of you mentioned you are in the same spot with your pets. I hope the best for you and your little ones.

It is time. Sending prayers for you & Charlie.

I had to put my 20 year old rescue fur-baby down in late November. It is never easy. You owe him! Don't let Charlie continue to suffer.

Take care brother!

I also had a beagle named Charlie, very old. Don't know for sure, they said he was 7 when we adopted him but that was just an estimation. So he would have been around 15 when he was euthanized. He was never the sharpest tool in the drawer but he got straight up dementia, couldn't find his way around the house, constantly fearful, even of his family, just a confused old dog living in a constant state of fear and paranoia, whose time came.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry man. Like others have said. It’s probably time. If you still think he may recover like he did before, you may want to give him another day or so. Up to you. You will know what to do.

ETA I see you updated. Really sorry man. It’s one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to do.

So sorry. Very hard to see your loved ones die. Have lost father over last year which was painful enough. Beagle is 6 and still healthy but know we will likely outlive him. Beagles are wonderful loyal dogs and it’s hard to let go. You gave him a great life. All good thoughts.
