When Pesci wanted to kill Don Rickles

Interesting anecdote.
Pesci grew up near Newark, NJ around real Italian wise guys, dealing with bull-busters, bullies and tough guys when he was younger. I can relate to him having grown up in about the same area. He'd seen it all. Guys found our real quick when they crossed a line.
I always wondered how Don Rickles (who I found absolutely hilarious) survived his shtick for so long without a huge arse-kicking. He seemingly had no boundaries.
Some "emotion-based" actors need focus. Michael Richards famously hate joking during shooting during Seinfeld. Joe Pesci probably regarded Rickles shenanigans on the set as needlessly disruptive, pushing his weight around and engaging in ridicule at other's expense and for attention.

Rickles worked in mob owned clubs early in his career too.

He does a pretty good Pesci impression.

I guess that helped him survive beatings

Pesci is not worthy to carry Rickles’ slippers.

—because the mob owned Vegas for decades. If you worked in Vegas, you had to work in a mob owned club

On the Johnny Carson Show? I agree.
On the set of a mob movie when Pesci's trying to do his scene? Naah. That's his"turf".
Loved Rickles. But I also believed at the time casting this famous funny-man was a mistake and distraction in Casino. You had to try to consciously dismiss "Don Rickles" as an actor in a serious movie.

Didn’t Pesci manage Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons when they were coming up?

Dunno. But from my understanding they moved in the same N. Joisey social circles.

Probably because Rickles did it to everyone and not just one person or group.

Don was also well-connected. Untouchable almost

Pesci connected Bob Gaudio with Frankie Valli. Pesci and Gaudio are about the same age and Frankie Valli is quite a bit older. I always thought the Joe Pesci Four Seasons connection was a cool story.

Got the vapors? You ok, dude? Is Don Rickles your uncle? You seem hyper-invested in outrage over a simple opinions on a forum. Relax.

Hear ya -- But I imagine the beginning of his "insult-comic" shtick had to be a bit challenging to pull off at smaller clubs before he became famous.

What I found most surprising is that he’s clearly an exceptional code-shifter. I’d bet he rarely deals with “hey are you Joe Pesci” while shopping.

Joe introduced Frank valli (Rusty Millio) to the other guys in the four seasons according to wikipedia
