I would suggest the part of town with that suburban feel, far away from crime, beggars, gov't housing and tent cities.

White Oak Landing, Lakes at White Oak, Woodland Ridge would be pretty painless commutes to that area.

Damn I forgot include St. George and El Cid in the OP.

I don't really mind driving out on I12 from the center of the city.

Anybody with real responses have any thoughts on Southdowns vs LSU Lakes vs Mid City/Garden District? Just wondering how the mid city and garden district area is coming up since I don't know much about the area.

Southdowns is a nice neighborhood. The LSU Lakes area is as well. Both are pretty expensive.

Mid City is being gentrified. It's still fairly close to some undesirable areas but I don't think crime is particularly high around there. The same goes for the Garden District.

LSU lakes, southeastern part of Garden District (not in a section close to undesirable parts), Southdowns, Kenilworth/Highland are places I would start my search.

White Oak Landing Area and send kids to St. Jean Vinney and St. Michael is really your only option that makes sense. If you are dead set on not living in a community outside of Baton Rouge and sending your kids to private schools.

I’m looking to move from DS to a place off Stanford this summer. I love the area around Southdowns and the Lakes.

No Denham Springs/LP.

You’re pretty stupid for not considering Denham and LP. Also if you live out there, you won’t have to spend thousands of dollars to send your kids to private school
