By 1984 I was married 7 years and with a 3 year old. In the spring I went back to school to finish my engineering degree.

Life was much simpler
No cell phones
No computers
No cable TV
No NIL or transfer portal
My technology was limited to a cassette player

I was 12 years old and lived on the edge of a mountain (actually a very high plateau) in NE AL. I rode my bike to my favorite fishing or hunting places most every day. We had reclaimed strip coal mines nearby with more deep, clear water ponds than you can imagine and a creek with class 5 and 6 rapids. How none of my buddies and I died in one of those ponds or that creek is a miracle. I honestly can’t imagine a better place for a young boy to grow up.

A month from 15, a freshman rocking a shortish mullet. Lived in a military area, American pride was back. We lived basically at the poverty line, but I had no clue.

Disco was dead, county was not cool yet. MJ and Prince ruled and all thr girls liked the British bands. Terminator, nightmare on elm Street and hardbodies were popular movies. Cosby, night court and Miami vice were tv must see.

Honestly I wish my kids would have experienced the 80s as a teen.

I was director of Quality and Regulatory Compliance for a medical device company in Richland Hills Texas. Among other things, we made Straight Jackets for restraining crazy folks. They worked very well.

Lived across the street from the QC manager at Bell Textron, the Helicopter folks. They were good friends, and we socialized with them - ate a lot of BBQ. Traveled from Ft Worth down to San Antonio and across into West Texas. Our two sons were in elementary school, so we did Baseball and Soccer a lot.

Graduated HS, moved to Knoxville TN and got a job at newly opened East Towne Mall. Fast tracked to assistant manager because my manager couldn’t lay off of booze and blow. Corporate actually pushed the paperwork through for me to be manager in one year. Good times!

IDK about the 'best' year of the 80's, but Reagan stomped Mondale something fierce, so that was fun. 49 states to 1. (525 electoral votes to 13)

The LA Olympics were a mixed bag, with no Soviets or their satellite countries, but it was still a pretty good time. Despite McDonald's Olympic game fiasco.

I was 14 and had just passed my motorcycle driving exam. Great times. No cell phones and couldn’t wait until summer. After your sports practice/ weight training that morning everybody went to the local pool and hung out all day. All basketball, football and baseball players came in at the same time for workouts and everybody knew we were going to the local pool. Getting a glimpse of hairy bush with Motley Crue in the background was life changing.
