what was truly amazing was watching the media and the Left do next level calculus figuring out how to blame everything on the Republican president while entirely exonerating the Democrat mayor

Nope, I'm sure the toilet issue sucked and then the rain poured in. But, hundreds of people weren't raped and killed. My cousin's husband was in charge and said 99% of the people, while completley miserable, just wanted to GTFO.

It's frickin' sad. The place was legendary before Katrina and what they did during Katrina brought them to mythical status. Then they go out in a frickin' whimper.

Folks had every opportunity to gtfo of town, but chose not to.
A few days later they drove to Baton Rouge. My MawMaw couldn’t go back until mid September

Superdome had issues because some people chose to act like animals.
It was horrible & unthinkable conditions, heat, darkness, no electricity, minimal water & food, toilets not functioning. Many had health issues & were elderly.
Add the criminals, drug addicts, psych patients and chaos is gonna take over. People were there because they had nothing else.
Everyone there was looking out for themselves plus fear of the unknown.
Maybe, without the lawlessness of those looking to take advantage of others, it could have been better conditions. I don’t know.
Don’t know if a higher class of people would have behaved any better.
It was a freakin disaster and some people expected 5 star service & accommodations.

Brother, the days following Hurricane Katrina is a textbook glimpse of how quickly and thoroughly a city will fall to complete anarchy after the country collapses.

A couple of weeks ago I went back to New Orleans for the first time to get on a cruise ship. Driving into the city on I-10 brought back smells, sounds and scenes I will never wish on anyone. That became a very dark time in my life.
And then you boarded the cruise ship....

to be fair, that applies to New Orleans regardless of past traumas

I remember driving down the interstate seeing people living on the side of the road.
It was that bad.
It was that bad.

Oh yeah, full Zombie Apocalypse where everyone died. Press really did a great job.

The rest is ancient history and I really don't give any sort of a shite anymore.
I feel the same. I stayed for Katrina at my house in Mid-City and got 4 1/2 ft of water in the ground floor. It wasn't until the following Friday when I finally made my way out of the city and headed to CENLA to my father-in-law's house to meet up with other family refugees.
I don't care to relive that crap ever again. I'm too damn old now to deal with rebuilding again.

Was it as bad as everyone says it was?? Dude... the immediate weeks and months following Katrina were about as close to an apocalyptic scenario as you will ever see. I lived in BR as an LSU student at the time so I didn't see it up close. But watching helicopters and trucks delivering bodies to the PMAC because it was being used as a morgue... yea what do you think

work with three guys that flew AF rescue helicopters out of Patrick, 12 hour days going from roof to roof dropping PJs down to rescue survivors, take inventory of the dead, and taking occasional ground fire from the local chamber of commerce, they had to to throw their flight suits away, including boots, because of the stench of decaying bodies
