not sure what’s funny. Has Apple ever been an internet provider?
If the Internet stopped working tomorrow name a single apple product that would still function.
Very short sighted of apple to not invest in innovation for the only thing that keeps that company alive but hey, split hairs about how Apple has no reason to invest in infrastructure because hey, cool phones and junk.
We all know the handheld phone factor is the be all end all in innovation so everyone should just accept that and look forward to the new camera lens and latest rainbow colored cases.
Oh and multi billion dollar spaceship campus just in time for the work from home shift. Genius!!
Steve Jobs is resting in peace now that apples job is done and happy to let silly people like Elon come up with all those outrageous ideas.

Apple horrifically missed the AI boat.

every software company should create it’s own starlink.
Every auto manufacturer should also be an oil producer.
Every grocery chain should also operate farms and ranches.

Elon is creating neural links that go inside your head, robots that will assist people in their homes and starlink which provides phone and data anywhere on the planet for starters...
frick all that. My life is better than most with none of that nonsense.

You can tell people that aren't technical fairly easily.

I'm not putting a chip in my head but I'm glad someone out there is pushing the technology to help others less fortunate.
I also don't see myself buying a ticket to Mars but I'm thrilled for everyone who wants to.

Before you go too far down that road I'm a former apple employee who in the 90s worked with Taligent, Kaleida, MagicCap, Hypercard, got to test newton hardware before they were ever released to the public , QuickTime beta and Apples original Internet ISP eWorld.
I would LOVE to have this debate with you.

Any phone works on its own w/o internet, just like any computer.
While you cred up, I am a Cisco CCNP (Legacy) and Systems Engineer (Mostly OT by choice). What did a 286 do before public internet?
People used them. At least this one fits in your pocket.

It's not like apple got into the music business or movie business right? That would be crazy.
You missed my point entirely; I'm not saying apple should build starlink but given their entire business model would collapse overnight if they ran out of gas (aka the Internet succumbs to a worldwide hack or slows down so nothing runs) you'd think they would be thinking of ways to keep people buying their doodads.

I love that you reference an old computer from the 80s designed before the Internet was a thing that you could run wordstar and lotus 123 on as a reason Apple would survive without the Internet.
You can't even get past the startup screen on a new apple computer without registering on the Internet first.

I would love to see phones take a huge leap backwards.

wut? You connecting it up to your bell south land line? You think an iPhone at $1,200 would still sell over a $75 flip phone if all you could do was make telephone calls using microwave towers?

I can guarantee I can get any phone, give it to one of my baws and using that phone to mine something.

You said the iPhone still works without the Internet. Please elaborate.

Just turn off provider, wifi. - and it still works.
Not as people are used to working with a phone, but you can still have apps, bluetooth, etc.

Let me know how you load apps without the Internet and a list of apps that don't require Internet to run.
I guess all the devs can quickly rebuild then to pull that part out and mail the new versions to people on floppy disks.
