The Beveren cream one is definitely the best. I agree on the freshness.

This is true but randazzos wants $69.95 for their medium traditional.
That's laughable even with the delivery charge included.
How much are others charging for shipping?
Manny's instore price is $21.95 for a medium, which is right in line with most other non grocery store brands and actually on the lower end of the range.

Well she got the recipe from Manny so they are pretty much the same.

Manny Randazzo is the gold standard for a traditional king cake. Caluda who is Manny's ex wife is a close 2nd. Caluda has started with the colored sugar last year which is a deal killer for me. The sprinkles is how the original Randazzo brothers in Chalmette made them in the late 60's and 70's.
One thing missing from the original Randazzo brothers' king cakes is anise. The old Randazzo brothers' king cakes had a faint licorice taste. Can't remember if it was in the icing or dough. I figured the Randazzo brothers used a little anise from their italian cookies in their king cake recipe to give it that little extra.
I suspect to save money Manny, Caluda and Caywood and Ranazo leave this ingredient out. Caluda had the anise in their king cakes years ago but has since left it out.

Caluda is Manny's ex wife? Caluda is a dude and no one's ex wife. He formerly owned the Coffee Cottage that closed after Katrina and so he began King Caking.

I have tried almost everything listed except Oak Point and the ones mentioned in the Lafayette area, but to me, the best King Cake on planet earth resides in Hammond/Pontchatoula.

Keller’s in Lafayette or Youngsville makes the best king. And it’s not even close.

Just grabbed one from Antoine's in Gretna yesterday and I really like it - got it near the top of my list. I am a big fan of both Manny Randazzo's and Nona Randazzo's also. I live in Denham and my kids go to school in central and I do like Oak Point's but those are a bit different from the NOLA styles that I like. Never had Dong Phuong but I will probably grab one next time I am in NOLA for work. Was gonna grab one yesterday but couldn't get away from the WB in enough time to get to the East so grabbed one from Antoine's instead.

Nah baw…it doesn’t come close to Randazzo Camilia City. It’s perfection.
Posted on 1/16/25 at 4:56 pm to NoBoDawg
Of all the Randazzo's, Camilia City is the one you think is best? Seem pretty close to each other and hard to tell the difference?

Diane (Mannys ex wife) partnered with John Caluda to make a king cake after the divorce. Does not mean that it is automatically the same king cake. Try both and you will know.

I was passing through the St. Amant CBD on my way to the suburbs a few days ago and decided to stop by Delaunes Grocery to pick one up. I got a strawberry cheesecake king cake and I’d be lying if I said it was anything other than the best king cake I’ve ever had. Laugh all you want but I was thoroughly impressed.

I like Oak Point’s. But that’s Central/Denham Springs.
