Your local lake has all of that.

I love a good lake weekend. Wakeboard or tube on the boat, post up on the shore or go float somewhere enjoying cold beers. Bonus if the lake has a golf course nearby to play one morning then boat in the afternoon. Have a nice house with a good deck and grill at night.

I don’t hate the beach but some people go to the beach and that’s it. No other activities outside of sitting on the beach for 3/4 days. My in laws are like this and I get bored by day 2. Gotta have some variety in activities like fishing, golf etc.

I always liked the beach as a kid. We generally supervised ourselves.

ETA: We'd go down to Castle's Beach in Kailua and go surfing (3rd to 5th graders, we could all swim like fish). We'd also use our boards to paddle out to Popoia Island, which was about 1500 feet or so out in Kailua Bay.

I like seeing my kids have fun but it’s a crap ton of work yes and I’m a shameful ADHD so impatience and boredom sets in pretty dang quick.

I have to think 85% of “beach bums” are really just drinking all day.

I love it. The constant relaxing sounds the sand the water. I'm going Friday.
Love the beach.

I saw a shark attack once in waist deep water and it kind of fricked me up

Ok well that's a little different then if there's past trauma involved. I had to help a lifeguard carry back two people that were drowning from getting caught in a rip tide a few years ago. I was way out there just relaxing and he passes one guy off to me to take back and I go back out and get a kid. The man died but the kid actually lived. Don't think I'll ever go out that far again without any floatation, I was near the rip tide and didn't even know it.

Why risk it?

There is almost zero risk. You're more likely to die from a champagne cork popping you in the head, falling coconuts, or a lawn mower accident than you are a shark attack.

With a bathroom and an actual pool right next to you at your condo? Why risk a shark attack for that?

I’ll stand waist to chest deep all damn day. Like I said… I will see a hammerhead one day.

When I was a kid I saw someone die when a horse flipped over on them but I still swing my leg over a horse nearly every day. Stop living in fear. We all have to die someday.

I had to go back to make sure I wasn’t replying to a gad alter bc your statement was so dumb

I imagine lulu's would be too.

I will say this. I have only been once. We waited over two hours and that wasn't bad. I actually ended up going get a beer and got to talking to an Auburn fan who ended up buying me a few more as we talked sports, the people I was with had to come tell me out table was ready. It is a cool play to hang out, if I had to wait for a table anywhere that's the place to do it..

But the food. Look, after several beers anything usually taste good to me. Ive had food while drinking that I swear was the best ever then when I eat it sober I can't believe I thought it was good, but I think I ordered the chicken fingers at lulus. I went in not expecting it to be great so I ordered chicken fingers just because just from the menu I could tell it would be middle of the road ball park type food. I remember when they brought our food everyone at the table had a "oh wow. That doesn't look that great" look..

It might have just been a bad night... A lot of people, things happen, but the chicken fingers were not good at all which is hard to mess up. They actually looked like they had been sitting out for awhile. Like I said, I liked the whole concept and its a cool place to wait at, but that particular night the food was bad.

I've been to the beach a minimum of once per year for as long as I can remember...and I'm pushing 50. Can't say I've ever had a bad time there. From me being the kid, to hauling our own kids, to couples trips, mom trips, taking teenagers, etc., it's always a good time. It's an actual vacation where time just disappears, no schedule, just lounge, float, eat/drink, read, listen to music. Rinse repeat.

I don't always want to "do" stuff on vacation. Some vacations feel like you need a vacation when you get home. The beach is the exact opposite. Smell the sea breeze and listen to the waves...

Put me on team beach.

Simply, the beach creates a lifetime of special memories -- especially for kids. AND even for you.

I was blessed enough to have my family afford weekly rentals at Jersey beach for a few years. Will never forget the joy of my dad leaping into the waves like a kid -- and laughing with us. Priceless.

Change beaches and attitude, son.

the beach with kids is the biggest beating ever. Not everyone can afford beachfront where you just walk out to the beach. Every OT guy can afford Destin for a 3k a week house.

You don't have family/friends that you'd like to travel with to help with the cost? It's more fun anyway with a group IMO

We do several beach trips a year. Always fun, even if it does take a little bit more effort occasionally.

Understood, and that's why we always had rental 1-4 blocks away from the actual beach. We walked it, no prob.

If you've got tiny ones, obviously a different story. When they get older, they won't mind the stroll.

Going to the beach IS fun. Dragging along an entire house's worth of snacks, drinks, blankets, towels, chairs, etc. is what ruins it. There's no need to make a big production of it. Carry a couple bottles of water and some sunscreen. A mask, snorkel, and fins to enjoy the water, maybe a rod if you want to fish in the surf.

The beach can be lots of fun. It's all the crap that everyone drags along with them that ruins it.

Mountain cabins are where it’s at. You either have mountain people or beach people.

Fantastic in fall and winter. Hotter than hell in summer. Beautiful though. Mexico Beach ain't bad either. Navarre for Thanksgiving is about as good as it gets....
