You don't know what true unselfish love is until you have children. That's the gift. They take you from the center of your own universe, simplify things, make you feel things differently and more intensely. You become a giver, and not a taker and this makes you experience the world differently. It allows you to savor the small things through their eyes. The joy of discovering and learning and feeling. And if you do it right as I have, they will give it all back to you and exceed you in ways that make your heart ache with love and pride. I wish everybody was able to experience that.
I do not think it is possible to experience the full breadth of the human experience without being a parent. Of course people that are barely hanging on, don't even know what that means, because they are just scraping by. A lot of people have no business being parents, they don't really have much of value to give the world. They are just doing their time.Knowing this, If I were you I'd just keep being an Island. Just keep doing you until your heart has something unselfish in it.

It's pretty cool when they make the Dean's List though.
Or watching them on the track, getting the back end loose and gathering It back up.
Or watching them be kind to children and animals.
It makes you forget about all the times you wanted to beat their butts.
Almost.

you don't have kids all you are doing is making money, spending money, getting older, making, spending, aging... Until you die. Pretty shallow existence
Also thinking about the billionaires who do have kids and all they do is make and spend money...Substantive existence because of the children, right?
ETA: Sorry, that was combative. But, really, Rouge brings up a good point. There are many, who gave freely of themselves, who didn't have children.

quote:Kids get upset. What works one day may not work the next. And sometimes the situation dictates whether or not a response is needed.
I encountered children that were going psycho, throwing tantrums, having meltdowns, and either the mother was doing nothing and the father was scrambling to subdue, or neither parent seemed affected. I wondered how they could be unfazed, or if the father was pissed that mom wasn't lending a hand.

I had an overwhelming need to create cream pies. One unfortunate side effect of this is kids.

I did not know that a post could be so preachy yet so judgmental
Well done, good sir

Rouge I even thought it sounded too judgey
Me!
Seriously though...stuff like that is why people without children get resentful towards parents. His post basically says that you have to be a parent to be considered a worthy human.

Because the world is such a wonderful place!
But to answer your question, mostly boredom and purpose. It's the next step once you get tired of living for yourself.

No shite. Haha I'm very happy I have at least one son in the litter.
My HS football coach told us after a tough loss that only seeing his sons play made him more proud than he was of us.
I never understood that until fatherhood. And his words of encouragement were Spot-on, whether it's my daughter singing a solo or son making a tackle for a loss. I can't describe it for you. Sorry.
Maybe it's God's way of avoiding you making a Terminator and destroying the world.

No offense nurse, but this statement is completely ignorant. It's like someone saying, "I resent people without kids because lsunurse is a c*nt and she doesn't have kids". The pimp dude is 1 person on a sports based website. Most people feel nothing like he does.

I guess I should clarify
Those statements like that make those without children resentful of parents who try to tell them they are missing out by not having children.

Go ask your parents. I'll admit that they probably made a mistake.

I evangelize for parenthood. Nothing wrong about that. It's the essential human unit and absolutely crucial for a well-lived life.
And c'mon Rouge, many people just should not be parents. They just don't have it. They gots nothing.
A parent would get this in a way that a non-parent wouldn't. My 17 year old daughter is the nicest human being I have ever met. She and my 14 year old son hug each other and look out for each other and spoil our 12 year old. They plug in their amps and jam together. They write songs together. They feel STRONGER together. We sat together with guitars and sang, the five of us, and watched The Seinfeld Festivus episode on Christmas Eve, and I felt like my heart would burst. My wife literally cried with joy. Something that simple. Only a parent understands that. A non parent says shite like "that's preachy".

the animosity mid 30s women have for mid 20s women is incredible. Especially if the mid 30s doesn't have kids.
