I don't miss small town living and everyone knowing my business. Living in Baton Rouge for me is like being on vacation. When I go to Wal Mart, nobody knows me and my business.

I moved from BR to a small town outside of Nashville. We bought some semi-cleared land that is surrounded by more hunting land and have no neighbors. I travel so all I have to do is make it to the airport.
I love the small town vibe, but we’re not immersed in it. There are also a lot of other transplants around here from all over the country, so it’s a mix of cultures. I would never live in a large city again. Before I got dogs, I could hunt deer and turkey from my front porch.

I went to a small highschool, like graduated with 50 people small. I'm still really good friends with the people I was friends with then. I could call them in the middle of the night and they'd come pick my arse up if I was in a bind, and I would do the same from them. That's what I liked about it, we still all talk, get together on holidays and are in each other's weddings. I live in Dallas now, and can't imagine growing up there. I love living there as a single 20 something, but it's way different. I wish my hometown wasn't filled with fatass trashy people that latch on to the latest fad. An example, when CrossFit got big there were more CrossFits than in a small La city than in Baton Rouge or Dallas yet everyone is still fat.

I live in a large city and prefer it. I like my conveniences.
ETA: And, yes, I've lived in the boonies, too (Altus, Oklahoma and Knob Noster, Missouri, to name a couple).

I may one day choose to live in a small town, but it won't be some shite hole in this state if I do. Small town life has it's positives, but not when it's 90% trashy people.

I love being from a Big City and moving to Baton Rouge and can't believe how small it is compared to what I was used to. I love how people consider small cities to me to be a big city

I like to live in a decent sized city but also like to have the space to get away and do redneck stuff
So basically I want both

Everybody knows everybody
Low crime
Great schools
Small town life is extremely boring for teenagers and 20-somethings without kids, but I can see the appeal.

I grew up in a small town outside of Huntsville, AL, then lived in Huntsville itself from HS through college.
Since then I've lived in small towns and big cities all across the world.
So I've pretty much experienced the entire spectrum...and I still prefer mid-sized cities. I find your average person annoying and even more so in large groups, but I also like amenities. So my preference is to live somewhere nice and quiet away from people, but within a short drive of things I enjoy doing.
