re: Why is MSY rental car shuttle so long?

In Orlando you have to drive through all the terminals to find your first sign indicating that a car rental place even exists. If it’s your first time, GOOD LUCK. Ours is hardly efficient and most airports suck so I’m not here to say we have it great (AUS has it still connected to their airport, great setup) but there are other large airport with way worse setups. For the last half decade at ORD the train line was down and they had broken down busses hauling people across property. And yes, they take the damn surface streets and highways to get there.
Nothing that exists at any other airport is relevant to whether MSY is poorly designed.

Do you really have the expectation that anything can be run or done properly in that shite hole? Expect the worst in everything and it’s much better for your mental health when dealing with the city.

MSY ranks up there with PHX, EWR, PHL, and LAX with horrible rental car logistics.

DENVER that's it. I was trying to think of where I went recently where it was a long ride to the rental car lot. Denver.
Vegas had a shuttle that took a bit as did LAX and there every place had its own shuttle. So you had to wait for yours.

Were you in the back seat?

Find me an airport without design flaws then your point is valid.

ours is disgusting and the worst design possible and basically is a third world African airport.
I mean, if they're going to insist on the current configuration, at least upgrade Bainbridge Ave at the barest of minimums. Looking out the shuttle window on that street reminds one of a Third World Paradise in a hurry. It's the first damn impression a lot of tourists get of the city and it's not a great one to start with.

The best large airport rental car setups are ATL and PHX as they have a dedicated train to the rental car center, 5-10 min.
SLC is pretty good for a larger airport as well.
DEN isnt that bad. At least the rental car places are on the way into Denver so its takes that time off your drive and the buses do come to the Terminal every 5 minutes or ao

I flew in there for the first time a couple of months ago, and the distance from the car rental place to airport is laughably long. The rental place feels like you're in the middle of nowhere.
The problem with LAX is the amount of people (and type of people) flying in/out that makes the shuttle uncomfortable and honestly quite gross. I've gotten to the point where I skip the shuttle altogether and just take an Uber between airport and rental car center.
Every time I've been on the shuttle for my rental car place there, we are packed in like sardines and the majority of the passengers just flew in from China or some crap

Well yeah, the whole airport is in the middle of nowhere

BTR GOAT airport
I only fly out of BTR unless MSY has a direct that would be a lot more convenient.
I have several trips coming up over the next few months, and every one was cheaper in ticket price from BTR than MSY. That used to not be the case. Hell, maybe it's still not the case generally speaking and I just got lucky.

Yeah the prices are pretty much equal now.
And I much prefer the convenience of BTR even if it means I have a connecting flight. It’s so nice to fly in and be 15 minutes from the house.

Atl is a great setup and for an airport itself (minus getting to rental car) DFW is good too.
ATL is extremely crowded however I think maybe it’s a bit undersized (which is crazy for how big it is).

My favorite is the parking garages are always full, short term and long term. Great planning ahead.

MIA felt like a 10 mile walk but that may have been because I was delayed getting there 14 hours

having the shuttle use the current access road inside the security fence isn't that easy. Once a passenger leaves the concourse and goes to bag claim and or to get on the shuttle they are no longer secure. you and your bag would have to be re-screened before entering the security gate. The FFA also doesn't want that amount of traffic on the perimeter road.During foggy season the shuttle wouldn't be able to run. current route isn't the best but other airports have similar. Just flew to denver 3 weeks ago and the shuttle ride was 10-15 minutes. The tunnel under the runway isn't an option!

I think they have two adult video stores on Bainbridge too

US park always has spots. They also have the economy parking near the old terminal. Another long shuttle ride.
