My vote is that Will Smith saw an opportunity for woke victimhood/turn around and become a hero publicity opportunity and seized it. I don't think he was actually offended or triggered, but he saw his chance and took it. I doubt Chris Rock or the Oscars people were in on it, but I don't think the moment was 100% genuine either.

There is no way the MPAA would knowingly allow anything as crass as this BS to upstage their biggest event on a Global Television Stage

No one has been watching it and ratings are historically low and have taken a sharp decline in the previous years. Thus, people stop to care about the industry as a whole.

Smith was the favorite to win his first Oscar

Convenient that 30 minutes later he gave a speech about protecting and sticking up for women? I'm sure that was a coincidence.

Why would Chris Rock allow himself to be punked on Global Live Television? What could he possibly have gained?

One of the best punch lines of all time that will be told until he dies.

This is more of my opinion as well. My point is just that it was fake, just how fake was it?

Yep, you're right. Professional actors, whose entire livelihood revolves around PRETENDING to be someone they are not and do things they otherwise wouldn't, would never fabricate an "incident" for attention and be able to pull it off so convincingly that people would believe it is real. Hell, Will Smith literally won the award for best performance as an actor. Yet, somehow, we're to believe that same person could not convincingly pull off such a stunt?

And most of the argument of it being real is how convincing all the actors in question were "being"

Have you gauged actual people? How many African Americans have you talked to about the incident?

The irony is if you showed this event to regular (non-celebrity) black folks the overwhelming majority would laugh and say it was fake. You don't get so mad at another man that you want to fight him...only to give him some sissy slap in the face. I promise you if you have ever spent any time around a group of black men that is not how such an event goes down.

Gotta hand it to his PR team, they did a pretty good job here earning back a little bit of respect. So no, it was not a coincidence, but you are out of your goddamned mind if you think he intentionally forever linked the Williams family to bitch slapping Chris Rock.

I like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy and let’s be honest a shite ton of them have panned out recently. One thing you have to ask yourself when it comes to conspiracy theories is the juice worth the squeeze?

In this case I’m not seeing the juice. Smith comes off looking like a unhinged lunatic that is still a cuck. Rock gets bitch slapped on worldwide TV, and Jada is still a slut nobody likes.

Just not seeing where anything was gained by any of the parties involved.

This is simply a case of a man who has been demeaned by his wife over and over, dragged through the briars in social media, and has fricked up kids. His home life is a complete and public shite show. He snapped and slapped Rock to boost his ego and feel somewhat like a man again.

the MPAA would not have an acceptable solution to this be a nominee slapping a guest host on stage and then the nominee using using profanity on a live broadcast. If you think the MPAA would allow their biggest event to be upstaged like this on purpose, you dont know much about them or their history

he didnt know he was going to win. would have been pretty shitty to have the night go down like it did, he looks like an idiot and he loses again

yeah sure, because Rock needs that kind of legacy at the expense of someone slapping him and looking like a bitch

if it was a pre-planned stunt and was supposed to be playful something definitely changed when Smith sat back down, he looked like an unhinged lunatic on the biggest night of his life.

the fact there was not a Punk'D style "ha ha, we got you" with SMith and Rock after the ceremony ended tells anyone with any common sense this was not pre-planned at all

sure and perhaps the gravity of his act set in when they went to commercial and he realized he looked like a fool

or his wife told him he looked like a fool

there is no way the MPAA was in on it, and I seriously doubt Rock was as well. I just dont think he would agree to something like that on that stage.

I concur. I think this was 100% an impulsive Will Smith who saw a chance to score some points.

I'm Team Rock, for no other reason than she was the worst part of Gotham and almost ruined a great show.

Pretty much this. The response has largely been, "But the ratings!" Can't see how any of that would matter to the three most directly involved.

And even then, instead of decking Rock like what he probably left his seat to do, he pussied out and half slapped him only to look worse.

I'm only on page 30 and this thread is kind of depressing to be honest. I can't believe so many people have apparently never observed human behavior and think that these videos show a staged incident. Yes it's the Oscars but it's not "the movies". It took a second for the joke to register, Jada starts rolling her eyes as the camera cuts back to Rock saying "that was the nice one", either Will processed the joke in that second or what I think is Jada probably snapped at Will "you gon let him talk about your wife like that". Will walks up thinking about what he's going to do, Rock thinks he's just going to do something funny, Will pauses then quick slaps him, Rock is in shock. This is supposed to be the most prestigious entertainment event in the world, Chris Rock doesn't expect a fellow multi millionaire A lister and probable best actor winner to turn it into the spicy chicken line at Popeye's

This Board is so bipolar.

If he doesn't stand up for his wife, y'all would call him a cuck. When he does stand up for his wife, y'all call him a cuck.

If they weren't in on it, then why wasn't Will Smith kicked out? He assaulted their emcee on live TV. Chris Rock is a movie star, shouldn't something have been done to protect him? It's all a big publicity stunt. It worked.
