Chris Rock to not put his arms behind his back and lean his chin forward as Will Smith approaches. Normal reaction is to put your hands up in defense mode, at the very least to deflect a punch.

I'd agree...if it was some stranger on the street. Not when you're both wearing $5000+ tuxedoes on the stage at the Academy Awards. there was zero reason for Chris Rock to assume Will smith actually meant him any harm. I look at that as him smiling and leaning forward waiting to engage Smith in some verbal banter. Last thing he expected was to get hit by Will fricking Smith at The Oscars.

quote:

Also, I’d have to have someone explain to me why Will Smith threw his momentum (his chest) backwards as he swung, instead of forward like a person who was actually trying to inflict a little harm would do. He short armed that punch, much like a movie actor would do when filming a scene. Will’s “slap” using only the fingers, and not be palm of his hand or a fist, was so that he would cause as little force as possible.

I addressed this earlier, but my guess is he left his seat with the intention of decking rock, only to realize in the walk up what he was actually doing and where he was and walk it back some to that awkward slap thing we saw. When Rock called him out as he walked away, he lost his shite again and started screaming.

quote:

If Will Smith actually caught Chris Rock off guard wouldn’t Rock’s momentum cause him to fall a step or two to the side?

He kinda' did. He took an additional step to his left to accommodate the slap.

quote:

Chris Rock never took a step back to protect himself at any point.

See above. Normal people to assume they're going to get hit in the face at The Oscars.

quote:

How did he know Will Smith wasn’t going to keep swinging?

Because he slapped him once and stated to turn around. If you watch Rock in the video, he brings his hands forward after the hit and actually starts to ball up his right hand. smith bitch slapped him and turned right around and walked away. He didn't hit him and stand there waiting to throw hands with Chris Rock at The Oscars.

So basically there is no new information that could come forward that would change your mind that this was fake.

Kind of my take on Scent of a Woman, and yet it's where Pacino finally won his instead of in about 5 others earlier in his career. Doesn't matter what you get it for, just that you got it.
Doesn't speak well for the competition. I would be depressed and maybe suicidal if I lost out on Best Actor award to Will Smith.

Not "televised". Also likely not "live".

You are very much missing the point.

The entire incident simply proves the stereotypes are not stereotypes, they're truthful assessments

Every time I see the video, especially the slow motion video, it’s obvious it’s a fake.

Will Smith keeps looking down as he walks up so he doesn’t laugh. In the instant after the slap (as Smith is turning back around) both Rock and Smith have a smile on their face.

What more info is needed?

I can't imagine why Will would ever agree to tarnish his legacy before receiving the ultimate Oscar award for Best Actor. I don't see how money could even motivate him for that. He certainly doesn't need the publicity. This should have been a highly celebrated moment for him in his career.

He has mental problems. I agree with Stern's take on this....first he was laughing it up and then just goes off and slaps Chris Rock. Then he is crying and sobbing and then later he is yucking it up dancing and rapping at an after party.

he is crazy.

When the commercial break began Rock immediately walked to the edge of the stage and leaned down while trying to talk to Will and Jada. I am sure he was trying to explain himself. They blew him off and just held hands in solidarity. Denzel immediately jumped up to stand between Rock and Will. There is a pick of it on TMZ.

After that Denzel and Tyler Perry talked Will down. Then his agent appeared to talk him down and what looked like about 15 Oscar security folks appeared on the stage.

I am blown away by the fake crowd who apparently have no critical thinking or deductive reasoning skills. From your comments I am wondering how some of you have ever convinced employers to hire you.

“Well it is finally official: Will Smith’s marriage is open to everything except jokes.”

You know if Norm was still alive, he’d have a scorcher of a tweet.

Ok then, how many people watched the Oscars this year? Last?

Was it even close to the "most watched televised shows"?

live

No

Sports, news, Joe Rogan on youtube before Spotify, who even watches "live award show" television in 2022 any way? Surely hardly anyone.

Rock is unsure of how to proceed. He's in disbelief. He's smiling as a coping mechanism to try to process if Will Smith really just walked up and hit him at the most prestigious annual film event in history.

Speaking of Rogan, that is the first podcast/show Chris should go on after this. He’s a long overdue guest on Rogan anyway and it’d be great even outside of this. Not like Joe ever has to worry about Smith coming on his podcast anyway, nor do I think he'd want to have Will Smith on.

Any sense of logic or reason

or

watching any of the unedited videos and aftermath

or

watching slowmo videos from another angle like the one Clay Travis posted

or

the political ramifications of staging two black men to fight on stage in a time where they are trying to build diversity and dispel stereotypes

or

the fact that nothing but negative has come out of this for both of them, and neither have come out and said a thing

Among many other things.

I don't those were smiles of laughter. Rock was smiling kinda in shock of the situation. Smith was smiling at Jada for her approval.

Just my opinion.

How does any of this prove that it wasn’t fake though?
