I'm in the Raleigh area. Our local news LOVES to get people freaked out over any little thing. As you can imagine people are trippin over some freezing rain

Raleigh area.
When I was a kid living in Cary, we got 20 inches of snow one year. I believe it was January 2000.
School was shut down for 2 weeks. Good times.

To be fair, freezing rain is the absolute worst of the Winter weather, and as it it looks right now, areas from NE Georgia to the Carolinas have a real possibility to get hours of it. It is a legitimate concern, particularly if you've ever dealt with an actual ice storm.

Sorry it’s going to around 7 to 8 but might be some on here in that 3 to 5 range. ??

12z HRRR is wanting to lose this way to the south of us here in TN. We'll see what 18z says. As of right now, HRRR is an extreme outlier, but maybe it's on to something.
vs NAM

vs NAM

I just dont think it's gonna get that bad in the Triangle. The news has people emptying shelves in the grocery stores

The NAM is in the mood to spare North MS now.

Here we go. That time of year when we don't actually get snow, but just the shite that knocks your power out for several days.

Ensembles don't have much snow accumulation on the Southern end at this point, but a few do show a freezing rain threat.

Well, yeah.
Freezing rain can’t be scraped off the road, salt or brine doesn’t work because of the wetness, and that shite takes down trees and power lines at a regular clip.
Add to it staff shortages at electric companies due to Omicron/COVID, it’s a bad bad mix for anyone that gets it right now.

dont disagree. my point was more around how bad the local news stations in this area are. they really like to get folks whipped up into a frenzy. but i digress, ice is bad

Am I mistaken, or does it look like a decent swath of Louisiana may be seeing some frozen precipitation from the wrap around?

You're looking at wind at the 850mb level on that graphic, not precip.
