The commerce clause is probably the most damaging words written, the Feds use that for the MAJORITY of their control over the states.

Slavery, obviously.

It was not only immoral, but short-sighted as hell. There would soon be tons of immigrants willing to work for less than it cost to buy, maintain, and contain a slave.

I think it is fairly clear that the intent was for the security of the country to rest upon a citizen militia, given the founders' great distrust of standing armies. Basically Swiss style, but it didn't turn out that way.

I guess my answer is that the Second Amendment should have both acknowledged the right to arms and banned a standing army. That seems like the intent, but it got watered down... probably by some lobbyist from a cannon foundry or something.

They should have placed language in the Constitution spelling out how a state or group of states could leave the union if they wanted.

The southern delegates also should have picked their own damn cotton.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but pretty sure weed was legal back then.

Establish a Capitol. Congress should have rotated through the States each year and the Federal administration should have been distributed among the States. DC is basically a separate country ruling the States like colonies.

Their single biggest mistake was being concise with the language of the amendments and thinking their intent would be forever inherently understood.

If you read the minutes of the convention its pretty fricking clear what they meant.

The constitution is a living thing whose meaning must change with the times

And yes, they should have addressed slavery right off the bat instead of putting it on the backburner.

Unreasonable expectation of a fledgling nation trying to keep itself together. It’s no justification, but it’s unreasonable for had they, then we very well might not be a United States today. The time for that was in turning back the first Dutch slave ships from entering the new world.

You know, if it ever came out that G. Gordon Liddy was a transvestite, my reaction would be one of surprise. It'd be like, "Gee? Gordon Liddy?".

Anyway, the transvestitism was a very small part of Hoover's legacy. He was a bulwark of conservatism.

Not addressing the slavery situation while drafting the constitution was a horrendous mistake that cost literal rivers of blood

No it wasn’t. Politics is said to be the art of the possible. Addressing slavery at that point was IMpossible. There would be no USA had they taken your ill considered advice.
