To buy it and resale, yes. To live in it, hell no.

And no. Even if you purchased it cheaper you are probably going to take the same hit if you decide to sell down the road.

Depending on where the home is located, and the time period that has passed since the murder, you may not have to disclose it when selling.

To those of you who said no, what is your reasoning behind this?

I wouldn't buy one where a famous murder/death took place because of the crazies that would show up. If it wasn't a famous case, then yes.

There was a murder suicide up the street from my parents' house. It took two years to sell it and it ended up selling for $150000 and the original asking price was $250000.

buy the asset at a reduced price

while in the process of moving in, plan to cook a burger and fries

put a BIG pot of vegetable oil on the stove top on high

get it boiling and drop the entire bag of frozen french fries into the oil

when the oil boils over and catches on fire, walk out

file insurance claim

profit

I was looking at a house where the daughter came home from college and blew her brains out. The parents just left. Never went back. This was like 25 years ago when she did this. In the end, I couldn't do it. BTW, the house was in a very nice part of town.

If it did, Would help eliminate any bothers if you knew it would be sold at least 25% under the price it should be? And would you have a hard time selling it to the SO?

The last owner of my house died of cancer in my (his) bedroom at a relatively young age (early 50s). Considering how un-superstitious I am, it was a consideration for me.

I wouldn't necessarily care about the murders as far as the house being a domicile is concerned (okay, I probably would). But whatever you save in the purchase will be lost in the resale--plus everyone would whisper about your house, no trick-or-treaters or girl scouts would show up, and random kids would probably try to spend the night there as a dare when you were out of town.

I wouldn't buy it. Would be very hard to sell it and make a profit unless you bought it at a severely discounted price. Definitely couldn't live there, I don't want to believe in ghosts but I'm sure I'd be scared of them regardless if I lived there

Sorry the last name Benoit didn't ring a bell, nor did a murdersui that took place over 8 years ago.

Not a murder, but equally eerie - years ago we were looking at a house - had a contractor out for an estimate; ready to make an offer when my realtor told me that a man committed suicide in the house by hanging himself. Wife had recently left him and had taken the children. He was hanging in the house for several days before his body was discovered.
That kind of sorrow seeps into walls and can't be painted over. I am a firm believer of bad juju. We passed on the house...

frick no. You ever watched American horror story?

I'd be way too uncomfortable in the house. Not to mention, I don't feel like getting scared by ghosts every night since they're try hards and have nothing else to do. I need to be well rested for work.

When I was looking for a house in BR, I was interested in a house on Stanford Avenue near LSU.

Price was great... $139K.

Then I found out it was Gina Wilson Green's house. She was murdered by Derrick Todd Lee.

I passed on it.
