There are veterans that disagree with the wars they fought in and disagree with the government. So no. It won't change anyone's mind.

Mandatory 2 year military service might be a good idea.

Mandatory my arse. I will never let my sons become cannon fodder for a bunch of a-hole politicians. Maybe if we actually tried to stay out of wars instead of getting involved in every fight the world has to offer I would think differently but we don't so the point is moot.

I can’t remember the name, but some NBA star recently had to take some time off to complete his mandatory military service in his home country. He specifically called it out as his duty and as a point of national pride to serve in this capacity.

I don’t think I’ll ever live to see that type of national pride realized at scale here. I think we are just too inhomogeneous as a people to really galvanize behind the identity of “American”

I laugh when people say "if something terrible happened, we'd forget our differences and join together." They always cite 9/11. What I remember about 9/11 is we hadn't dragged the last body out of the pile and liberals and Democrats were already blaming America for bringing the attacks on ourselves.

If we get in a hot shooting match with a real opponent (China, Russia) half our population will support the other side.

It's out of hand already.

If we had a draft today, it would be weird seeing Republicans protesting war and democrats beating the drum.

Just because you don’t wanna go fight some war for the politicians and MIC doesn’t mean you are anti-American. Jesus Christ.
Do you really blame the draft dodgers back during Nam? Such a waste of American blood

On a state level, I think it would. I wouldn’t risk my life for anything north of Kentucky.

I am fully aware we likely won't ever need it again because wars are fought with long range missiles, drones, and probably robots soon

You’re assuming we wouldn’t be operating in a degraded environment if we went to war with a near peer.

All those so-called "trans" men would be become trans-Canadian to avoid the draft, I'm sure.

after 9/11 enlistments went through the ceiling, couple an event like that with the recession that usually coincides, it works, I'm starting to think mandatory mil service for two years upon reaching 18 should be instated

The problem there is that there are 4 million kids a yar so 2 years' worth is 8 million, which is a whole lot more than the military can use.

If it is a war like Vietnam for some other waste of time, I would do anything I could to keep my children or grandchildren out of draft. I will not put their life on the line for the politicians of the day.

What about the original gulf war or the original Afghanistan invasion?

I am pretty much out of military age at this point but the only way to get me to go is if we were directly attacked.

The beta mouth breathers in the US that have been sucking zelensky off for the past year will be responsible.

Should've taken the "why do we care approach" and bashed the fed gov and mil complex for trying to start another endless war.

but the dumbasses in society cant figure this out.

Just so everyone knows, these are ideas being floated by politicians. So just don’t vote for that.

IMO it shouldn’t really be up to me, my military shelf life has expired. I think I’m too old now.

They wanted to charge soldiers with murder.

But again I’m talking like national guard. Not special forces. You can have both and still have the volunteers for the other shite.

You think we were just going to take people off the street and plant them in fighter jets during 6 months of service?

2 years is prob too long. And it won’t be like this for everyone, but you have lost young males out there that won’t ever be a college person. Maybe six months opens their eyes and you then volunteer and make a career in the military.

That has to be better than mass violence and retail theft.
