Let me help you out.
Unless the stats you're referring to have been normalized, they're not making an apples-to-apples comparison across the years.
It's a little disingenuous to quote violent crime numbers but fail to acknowledge the huge spike in homicides.
On a simpler plane, in the 60s - 80s time frame, there were isolated pockets in BR that one might deem unsafe. That has been inverted such that there are only isolated pockets that are safe.
Your workmanship is suspect.

Stay on topic Aggie.
The working assumption in this thread is there are alums with kids who would be accepted.

In 1982 my roommate in Kirby Smith came in one night right after dark and announced that he had been robbed at gunpoint while walking near the enchanted forest. He had the gun shoved in his chest while handing over his wallet.

A monkey with a dissected brain can get into LSU. At LSU, if you can write your name on a piece of paper, that’s three credit hours. If you can put the name of the school you’re going to, that’s four credit hours. It’s a party school full of dumb hicks, nothing more

Ha ha! Normalized to what? Population in Baton Rouge? It's been about the same for years. I think you're using fancy words but not knowing what they really mean.

I did acknowledge that homicides have increased recently. Read my posts. They were fairly high in the early 90s as well. But violent crime as a whole, which includes things such as rape, assault, armed robberies as well as homicides, was as a whole lot worse in the 80s and 90s. Should you just ignore all those crimes outside of homicide? Do your own research if you doubt mine but my data is straight from the FBI web site.

What constitutes a "violent" crime. How they're reported; counted. Was the methodology the same across the years. You quoted the stats. You should know their pedigree.

You're going to need more napalm. South of Florida Boulevard isn't that great anymore.

Baton Rouge is a sh—- hole. Who would send their kid to LSU unless the only way you can afford college is tops.

I won’t send mine. No alumni scholarships anymore.

How many Maddy Brooks and Allie Rice’s can we stomach? With this shooting that literally happened 100 yards off campus, and yeah I know it wasn’t a student, but still - with violent crime slowly encroaching every corner of campus (and off campus) at an alarming rate, how much longer can we just sit back and pretend nothings wrong?
Do you ever consider how social media has an impact on todays world than before it existed. You wouldn't hear about half the shite that went on and because of that it wouldn't seem as bad. Social media has exposed the underbelly of society and it causes some of you to freak out and want to start a posse to stop people from sending their kids to LSU.

If you are willing to spend the money for a safe apartment with gates and you educate your kids on how to not be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you have nothing to worry about.
People act like most of this crime is random. It’s not random. It’s all related. That being said, I won’t discourage my kid from going to LSU. I definitely wouldn’t be upset if they considered other SEC schools though.
UGA, Bama, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss.
as well as LSU all solid choices for the southern college experience for any kid.

I know this will be surprising to many Texans but there are like a dozen other states I'd rather live in over Texas. It's a great state and I'm not shitting on it from Louisiana either

The same social media that permeates LSU is equally prevalent at every other SEC school. The only difference is that coeds aren’t getting randomly shot or raped/run over at other schools. It’s not exactly apples to apples.

Same. I’m aware it’s there and I like the fact that they manage to excel in the wake of Louisiana’s frightening and continued downturn, but nothing has ever attracted me there as a final destination.

I am of the same LSU pedigree as you. I will not let my child go there next year. No way. Crime is out of control in BR. I can’t wait to get out and find a small town in another state without the senseless shooting. Violent gun crime has spread to every neighborhood in BR. It’s dangerous to go the the grocery store and gas station anywhere around here. Pathetic the class of people at and living near LSU are ruining student life and the general safety. Some people on this thread are willingly ignorant to the fast moving degradation of Greater BR. Im not. There are much better places to live at this point.

There are some who are incapable of bringing themselves to the realization that things are bad, they are worse than they were 2+ decades ago, and the trajectory is not for the better.
The OP broached an idea not to hurt LSU but to somehow save LSU from let's say culcha-water intrusion.
For those who deny there are legitimate concerns, do you think crime is gonna slack up on its on? That the violent crime rates are acceptable? That LSU is this impregnable fortress?
Why do we have compare ourselves to the lowest common denominator to justify this? Why not strive toward the highest bar?
