That is about $2,239 per attendee. This seems like a very optimistic number, especially if it’s assuming the impact $175 million more than would otherwise exist.

It includes ALL the days leading up. There is a full week of events so that is a week of people coming and going, staying in hotels, food, tickets to all events, once inside, food, alcohol and merchandise sales.

But the local economic impact of some of those (e.g., merchandise and ticket sales) is less than 100% of the sales of those things.

In addition, given that New Orleans is a tourist destination and many other smaller events are commonly scheduled there, the true economic impact would be a value added above the expectation, and have to account for and offset any losses from other common sources.

I’m not arguing that this wouldn’t have a large impact, but I think the true economic impact would be less.

That’s a lot of virgins coming in town. Baws spending their GameStop pay checks in our town.

True, but highly unlikely to make it 5.

And not every person who attends an event provides much of an economic impact at all if they only attend the event and spend little outside of the event (other than maybe parking).

Economists have estimated the Super Bowl has an economic impact of $30 to $130 million, but we should expect Wrestlemania to have a 35% higher impact than the upper end of that?

It's no different than grown men and women playing dress up and obsessing over 18-22 year old kids playing a game.

Try ~$400M in economic impact for the Superbowl.

ETA: A New orleans article states low side as $200M and high at $800M

That’s my point. They overstate the true economic impact.

True, it's not like there would not be other visitors in NO if there was no wrestling.

WM30 was the biggest money making event in Superdome history. The average Saints game doesn't come close to that. I would think the Sugar Bowl makes good money though.

And article says that $22 million was spent on hotels and accommodations and $9.9 million was spent at area restaurants, or $31.9 million. That means $143.1 million or about 82%, over $1800 per attendee was generated from sources other than dining and accommodations.

We got a suite for both 30 & 34. Everyone dressed in different wrestlers and we were entertained. The people watching was great and the entertainment value of it is second to none.
