Whacked the first mature doe I’ve seen since we got here. Pretty happy I made a insta-kill neck shot with the wind howling.

I got up from my morning spot around 9:15 with the intention of slipping/scouting the edge of the cutover tract I was on the corner of, making a 90° turn and heading toward a swamp, then walking the edge of the swamp back the direction I started. Basically making a giant rectangle that would’ve taken most of the day.
I made it about 500 yards down the cutover edge and came across a tree snapped at the base, that would take a large deer to break. Also a scrape, some smaller rubs, and had a spike damn near walk up to me.
So I tucked back into the woods about 75 yards and made a little blind with palmettos. I’ll be sitting here until I either kill one or it gets dark. If I don’t kill him today, I’ll be back in here tomorrow with my sticks, platform and saddle. I took a video of the tree, so I’ll post a screenshot from the video.

When I was a bartender, we had a retired ATC that would come in a few times a week. He said he drank a 5th of Jack Daniels every day when he was still working.

ETA: not when he was actually at work but after.

New field in a big area of pines with creek running through it.
I saw a small 8 here Tuesday afternoon. Hoping the big 9 that running with him shows up before dark. I let the feeders go empty a couple weeks ago. Not sure if it’s related but seeing a few deer during daylight hours now.

Ooof, water in the hip boots is a bad day. I’ve seen duck guides wear Sitka bibs, can’t remember which ones exactly, over regular knee boots and swear they seal together with the water pressure and act like waders.
Last year, I had a spot where I had to cross a slough. I was camping and brought knee boots and hip boots just incase, figured I wouldn’t need my waders. Well the water was a little deeper than hip boots, so I tried the ole duck guide trick with my hip boots. It did not work. Filled them up on a cold arse morning. Miserable day of hunting, but still better than work.
