My ‘02 XR6 has been a good one but it’s developing issues I just don’t want to deal with so I’m swap out to something

Got a line on a ‘17 150 with around 150 hours, clean as a whistle. Going test ride it today to see if I’ll pursue further

Opinions from owners, good or bad.

They're awesome. The last of the real lightweight power dense low cost 2 strokes made.

I really wish they still made them.

I'd get the 4 stroke. Had both.

Got a reason other than it’s quieter?

I will say that all 3 outboard blow-aparts I've been 1st hand party to were 250 pro xs opti's.

I really wish they still made them. The power to weight ratio and fuel economy is amazing. They are peak performance outboard tech IMO

Eta: actually two 250's and a 115

I have a '15 150 Pro XS and love it.

Have it on a Bass Cat Sabre and she flies. Have seen a top speed of 69.2 and will run low to mid 60's with 2 people and a tournament load.

Thought they dropped the "Optimax" some time ago. I thought the 150 4stroke and the Pro XS were the same motor just with different gearing and tuned up a bit. Like the Yammy 4stroke and the SHO

They did when they stopped making them I believe he's asking for opinions on the previous 2 stroke motor. They rebranded to the "Pro XS" name for their 4 strokes when they stopped making 2 strokes.

I'm a 2-stroke guy. In my opinion there's no greater outboard sound on the water than an Optimax / Pro XS 150 hole shot. Even considering the new V8's. The big block 2 strokes don't sound as good.

I agree with a post above regarding power to weight ratio and fuel efficiency. The new 4 strokes aren't as fuel efficient as the opti / pro xs 2 strokes.

I was that guy. I've come around to the 4 stroke. I have never felt more mid range in a boat ever.

I have nothing against 4 strokes and I'm impressed by the current offerings in the market, but if I were in the market for a new boat I'd be inclined to buy used and go after a 2 stroke.

I’d be hard pressed to find one in better shape so I’m doing the deal. Pretty sure I have black Betty sold so out of pocket won’t be bad at all for a 15 year and hundreds of hours runtime upgrade.

All Optimax owners should be mechanically inclined. There'a always something to repair, replace, or maintain. Great motors, but I'll take a new Verado any day over an Opti.

I never needed to do anything with the 3 of mine.

That's great. How many hours were on your engines?

If nothing else they're cheap and easy to repair relative to the rest of the market.

I could not tell you. It's something I probably knew on each at the time. I've been through a bunch of boats in the last 20 years.
