the average hunter will probably never notice a difference.
Until they get ready to shoot that 300 Win bazooka. Got a 300 Win Mag in a Rem Sendero and it kicks like a mother fricker.

Other than the cost of ammo, I prefer my 300WSM to my old 7mm mag.
I shoot a T3 Lite in 300WSM. It's a great gun but it kicks like a mother.

In a nice rolling block rifle, can't think of a classier way to detach your retinas.

If you are mostly going to white tail hunt, 7 Mag is the way to go. The trajectory of a 7 mag 150-160 gr is virtually identical to a 300 mag 180 gr. Plus the 7 mag is much softer on the shoulder. If you are going to primarily hunt elk or brown bear, 300 mag is the way to go. That said, a 7 mag with a good 160 gr or 175 gr bullet is a very effective elk cartridge.
The real benefit of the 7 mag for deer is trajectory and range. It really helps if you are shooting long distance. I have my 7 mag set up for long range and routinely practice on life size deer targets out to 600 yrds. Once you get it dialed in, providing you know the distance and have minimal cross wind, 600 yrd shots are very attainable.
My documented longest kill is 550 yds with a 7 mag. I quite routinely make kills of 400-450 yds. While I do have 270/308/3006, it is much more difficult to do with the standard calibers, and I feel 7 mag is the best balance of shootability, trajectory and power of long range white tail deer.

Do you have a brake on it?
Limb saver?

I have one on my Win Mag, it's a game changer! Fun to shoot now.

To the OP, it kinda depends on what you already own for whitetail. If you want one gun to do it all, 7 Mag is good for long range on whitetail and powerful enough for Elk too. If you have a lower caliber whitetail rifle, step up to a 300 mag or wsm.

No to both

I just busted out laughing.
As for the .300 vs 7mm mag thing. It's massive overkill for a whitetail unless you're shooting really long shots. But I love velocity too so if you can justify it with an elk hunt or two in the future, I'd got .300. Your brains are getting beaten out either way and since that doesn't seem to be an issue, might as well go big in case you ever get a chance at a brown bear or long range sheep or moose or something like that. Since you're basing it on something you probably won't ever shoot anyway that is.
Just shoot .125 nosler BT's out of it for whitetails and stop worrying about getting a beat down from it or ever having to trail one again.

I would never own either, so kinda tough to choose.

Had a Browning 7Mag/boss and it was the sweetest gun I've ever shot. Had to sell and now I have a Browning 280. Close, but it's not as nice as that 7Mag was!

7 magnameter.
Plenty adequate for elk and a 150gr core Lokt bullet in the right spot won't turn a deer into mush.

300 win mag will have more bullet weight choices as already mentioned plus more long range capability. If you so choose it is capable of 1200 yd shots.
