We did the same thing years ago at our camp. If I am not mistaken the same saw. It worked well but became a pain to use. Maybe if you are guide it is worth.

I have one I made myself, Works bad arse, makes cleaning the smaller reds a breeze.

Biggest gain is ability to quickly clean sheephead making them worth keeping.

I'll share my technique with the OB for cleaning big arse redfish and sheepshead, it'll certainly be a lot cheaper than $175.

My technique: Don't keep big arse redfish and sheepshead, makes cleaning them a breeze.

Saw is $79 but still. $96 to for a blade is a stretch. I need to get in that business.

I've made two of them from Dexrer blades. It's a major PIA punching a hole in the blade and shaping it the steel is pretty damn hard. That being said it ain't hard enough to spend that much. A machine shop has the tools to do it fairly easy.

That thing after a long fishing trip and a sun baked hangover. What could possibly go wrong?

Why not use a 12" 18tpi blade?

$15 for a 5 pack

I've never tried it, but I bet the set of the teeth on those blades will let you cut right through the backbone before you know it. A serrated knife blade should ride the backbone and ribs without putting bone chips all over everything.

Just a guess.

Why use an electric knife to begin with?

Fished with Capt Marty in Dulac a couple months ago. We kept a bunch of sheepshead and while we were on the boat he said he had a new way to clean them which is why he didn't mind keeping them. My buddies were in town from GA and they just wanted to catch a bunch of fish. Anyway, we got back to the dock and he broke one of these out and made short work of those suckers. He said some coonass down there machined a knife blade to fit the handheld sawzall. Pretty slick.

I have never had a problem cleaning any size redfish with an electric knife. WTF is wrong with these charter captains? A redfish will burn up an electric knife? Please

sheepshead

I hate cleaning them. I'm good with a knife and cooking, but have always butchered them. It is really good eating as well.

I can get my way through them but I normally don't keep but maybe one or two small ones as they are a pain and really if I can catch sheepshead I can just work a little harder and find a few redfish. I will eat them but I don't prefer them.

But if I'm on a guided trout trip and he starts targeting sheepshead he and I are going to renegotiate the contract right there in the boat.

Some of the bigger ones are a PITA. But I don't keep those.

If I used one of those it's only a matter of time before my new nickname is 9 and a half. Errors or accidents that used to result in small cuts are now lopping off fingers
