To stock their pond or lagoon and can one transport 1,000 in 5 gal buckets in back of a pickup during cooler months ?
Any tricks to increase minnows survival would be appreciated.

Get you an aerator for the bucket, the circulating water dramatically improves survival rate. Frabill makes one that works great.

If it’s just for transport, get a 32 gallon garbage can and a cheap live well aerator. Hook the aerator up to a battery in the bed.

back in the day a trash can with a livewell pump on the deck of the mako would keep croakers all day

I brought 1000 fatheads from their place to my pond in Ponchatoula, and didn't lose any. They put them in a large, clear thick mil bag and then filled it the rest of the way with pure oxygen. I buckled it in the passenger seat and came on home, no issues.

I bought 1000 fathead minnows and 500 bluegill fingerlings last spring from
Shephard’s.
I live in Grant parish so it’s further drive than to Baton Rouge, they survived just fine in the plastic bags they put them in.They blow the bag up with oxygen.
They rode in the back of my Highlander with the A/C going. There was 3-4 died was all.
I think you would do just fine leaving them in the bags they place them in.

Same here, but it was from Slade's fish farm in Lumberton, MS. About the same distance. I moved bass, catfish, bream, and 1000 fatheads in just the bags they gave me. Worked just fine. I wouldn't waste my time buying a trash can and aerator.
