i've got the 2500 ones with the wireless remote on the boom on our crawfish catering trailer and have never had an issue besides the batteries in the remote. granted its not lifting/pulling the loads as it might on a 4 wheeler, but is used alot more and have never had it ever even hiccup. keep spare winch in the rig just as a backup and its never even had the box opened over 2 crawfish seasons

Now you need to do a real world review on how that ceramic coating held up.

I want to put a 12k on my raptor now....

There's something about harbor freight and a Raptor that does not go together.

Ive had the 12k on my trailer for about 4 years now, and never had a single issue with it. Used it a ton when we were clearing old junk off of our property to haul off. Some of the items had no business being put on my trailer.

Get the remote for it, a snatch block, keep it covered, and will do just fine. It is slower then most of the big name brands, but at 299.99 with the coupon for a 12k who cares.

Thinking about doing this on a 05 Tundra. Would you buy a winch with synthetic rope or wire cable? Pros and Cons of each?

With synthetic, you may want to “wash” the cable every so often. Dirt can get in between the braids, and “saw” into the strands over time without cleaning.

Just get a 5 gallon bucket full of water and work the cable from one end to the other under the water. It’s definitely safer because under tension, it won’t try to cut you in half of the line snaps like a steel cable would.
