Bass fishing Venice tips/tricks

Heading down to Venice on Thursday for a long weekend. Staying at a camp on Pass a Loutre. Plan to teal hunt, head offshore and possibly target bass/redfish.
I havent spent much time fishing Venice inshore and none of it was spent targeting bass. Any must have baits for Venice bass fishing or tips/tricks for those familiar with the area?

Can’t help you, I’ve only caught bass as a bycatch when targeting reds down there. We caught every redfish, flounder and bass on just a basic plastic cocahoe minnow on a jighead tipped with dead shrimp. They wouldn’t eat it if it wasn’t tipped - just wanted to say I’m also going to Venice on Thursday. Felt like heading out for a tuna trip was a good way to kick off the Bachelor party

Fish low/falling tides. HIt where the water is pouring from ponds back into the passes. Speedcraws have always been a go to down there. Good luck. I went down there two weeks in a row recently and had a hard time finding bass. Heard from a lot of people bass in Venice has been tough the last month or so.

Buddy of mine always did well flipping/punching the cane edges. If you can find water coming out of cuts the break will be good with a shad color squarebill.

We always did best throwing chartruese bandits in the cuts and watermelon Zoom speedcraws back into the canes(brush hog legs seem to kling to the canes alot). Use 65lb braid, 1/2oz Tungsten and a strong hook to flip into canes. you want to get back the canes and use the braid to drag the bass back out. If you clear the canes without a bite you'll sometimes get a red out on the edge. You'll also catch reds on the cranks. The key is clean water pulling out of the canes or cuts and the wind rustling the canes. The fish seem skittish when it's calm. There may be better ways to catch them but it's always worked for us.

Definitely have a few chartreuse/black back rattletraps, they’ll catch everything down in Venice.

We flip creature baits (speed craw, baby brushhog, worm, crab) in the cane on falling tide. Want the water to be mostly out of the cane, moving and at least venice clean. Canals 4-6' or deeper with steep drop offs at the cane. 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz weight depending on how hard the current is. Need it to get to bottom quick up againat cane. Pass a loutre itself is good at times in spots. Dennis, Caddro, Loomis and smaller cuts off those.
Its been very slim pickings though. Been twice in last month and have only caught 2 in our normal spots. Been focusing on trout and reds since bass have been scarce. I think Ida killed some of the spawn stock and the last two years of low river so early have hurt them. Before Ida, 100 bass days were possible with 30-40 per day being normal from September - November. My cousin fished all day for 14 bass 2 weeks ago on Saturday and had zero on Sunday in 4 hrs of fishing.

Fish the tide as noted above. If ur down there fishing all day, fish deep in ponds on high tides.. or you can smoke em at the marinas lol
