I would recommend The Blazer bay 2200 or 2220 fisherman. Great boats that handle chop well and that can get you in some skinny water.

Any reason blackjack and pathfinder didn’t make your list?

I really like both Pathfinder and Blackjack. As part of the list of requirements on my next boat is a larger console that allows a porta potty and access to the inside electrical components. That eliminates the smaller models of both those brands. Now they both have that option on their bigger models but I am pretty sure those will break my budget.

I really wish I could get the jump seats in the rear on the smaller model. I’d hate to jump up a size just to get that.
Otherwise, I like their layout a lot. Smartly done.

Check out Ranger...they make a nice Bay Boat and some of the models have the jump seats...just not exactly sure which sized have them

The problem that I’m having with BlackJack is getting pricing

They seem to like keeping it a secret. Their website doesn’t allow a build out and the dealerships all say “call for pricing”

I really like the Rangers but it’s not likely I will be able to find one in my budget. Love how their console opens up and how everything is really well thought out in the boat. Also like that the jump seat is in the middle behind the leaning post instead of at the sides. A few of the other brands are also doing this.

For pricing sometimes I will do a google search of the particular model I am looking at and get some generic pricing from various online sites.

Example: type in “Blackjack 256 for sale”

You won’t get a whole bunch but can usually find some listings across the country with prices both new and used.

Also keep an eye on the classified sections of The Hull Truth web forum.

The Hull Truth is a great website. I’d also recommend joining the Facebook forums for the boat you are looking for if shopping used. That is the first place a bunch of owners go to list. While I found my blackjack on Craigslist of all places I saw a number of boats on Facebook blackjack owners forum that weren’t listed elsewhere. And they go fast.

Agreed on Hull Truth. I am a frequent browser there. I’m not a Facebook person so I’m not familiar with the forums but my neighbor told me the same thing. He said the Sea Hunt forum has over 10,000 members and I could find a nice boat there.

Otherwise, I am set to look at Pathfinder and BlackJacks this weekend so I’m kinda geeked out about it

Went to look at Robalo, pathfinder, frontier, blackjack, sea hunt and sportsman models today.

My favorite is the pathfinder but here’s the deal. None left. Sold out. They are not releasing any more new models this year. The only models they had on the lot were 20’ 2019 and some larger models out of my price range.

The sportsman is nice but something about it threw me off. I liked the rear bench seat though.

They only had one blackjack and it was the 25’ tournament model . Nice looking .

The sea hunt is a nice boat but not convinced it’s legit bay boat. Looks more like a hybrid.

The Robalo surprised me. Nicely appointed and felt quality. Huge 65 gallon gas tank! It has some wood in the hull though.

I liked the Frontier but it’s fairly Spartan. No bow seating which I really want.
Despite that, The dealer almost got me to buy the 20’ Frontier. He said all the salesmen have frontier’s. They are the best riding of all the boats because of the hull design. It’s a no frills boat though. I need some Cush for my ladies.

Anyway, I might Be headed to the used market since there is so limited new stock.

For the money they are. The blackjack and robalo would ride better

Eta: don't let the wood scare you if you like the boat. Robalo builds excellent boats and they will be properly sealed. If you don't go to drilling holes all over the place it'll outlast you.

I really liked the Robalo but with little research I was uneducated when I looked at it because it wasn’t one I had on the radar. It was really nice though and it had all the creature comforts I want.
I appreciate your input

Yes the wood on the Robalo is what I don’t like. It is really nicely laid out though.

Which Pathfinder model did you like?

Try to find a Ranger 2360 to look at. They are awesome. The problem will be finding one. Will probably have to make a drive once you find one in the market.

Wood isn't the devil its made out to be these days. Lots of very old sportfishers running around with 100% wood cored construction. Done right and treated right, wood boats will last forever. Not saying its any better than structural foam, but its not any worse IMO.

The model in stock was the 2005TRS. Very nice boat. Priced out the door at $47,607

I think the 22 would be just right because it draws less water but they don’t have anymore and won’t be getting them until 2022! I’m still really strong on that 2005 though.

Btw pathfinder is the number one selling bay boat nationwide

Robalo is out of boats too.

Now I’ve honed in on sportsman. They have some available and Their layout is growing on me. I actually like the bench seat in the rear. It’s similar to the Robalo. They have really nice access to the machinery too.
The models I’m looking at is the masters 207 and tournament 214. Huge 65 gallon gas tanks which I’ve decided is a big factor for me.

Any complaints or cautious words of advice on Sportsman boats?

Fit finish access ride resale is great on the 247, not sure if the 22 is a smaller clone or not.
If going used try owners forums which usually have a classified section for the brand. I would have no problem running trips out of a sportsman.

I have a Tidewater. I’d check them out.

Your budget may allow for a larger boat but I do know they’ve recently upped their game and prices may have adjusted:/

I have the 2200 Carolina bay......huge casting deck. I was about to pull the trigger on a Skeeter then stepped inside the TW. With a family of 5 it was no question. Still, Skeeter was nice.

I run the Yami F200 and it is plenty. I can cruise at 39mph loaded down and top out at 45.
