I own a Ruger LCR and the Glock 26 & 27 I did have a Shield .40 & 9mm. Didn't care for the Shield. But now I carry an XDs .45 every day. It's by far my favorite.
Next purchase is the FN 5.7. Little bulky for CC put it can unleash a lot of hell on a bad guy or even a gang of bad guys.

I want a 5.7 so bad. My little cousin was popping watermelons at 100 yards with my uncles. 20 rounds of flat shooting screamers
That ammo $$ though

My pocket pistol is a S&W Bodyguard 380. I like it over the LCP or G42 because of the trigger and external safety.
A 380 isn't my ideal self defense round, but the frame on this gun fits my daily attire and conceal requirements. It will kill within ten feet, which is the idea of having to use a concealed firearm.

I've got the 9. Fits well in my pocket if I really needed it to but I wouldn't be pulling out with speed. It is a small frame with good capacity though.

For pure concealment, the LCP.
For concealment in a decent caliber that you might actually practice with, Kahr PM9.

I prefer that my primary self defense handgun NOT be a pocket pistol. Although I don't want to get shot w/ a 380 ACP, I think there are better self defense rounds. Having said that, I myself own a "pocket pistol" and I realize there are times one may have to use a pocket gun as their primary weapon. It's just my personal preference, but I think most are best served by a DAO gun whether it's a revolver or semi-auto. Good semi auto's in this category would include 380's in the Ruger LCP, Kahr CW380, S&W Bodyguard and Kahr P380. Although I've never shot one, I'm not a fan of the Glock model 42 because of it's size; it's considerably bigger than true pocket guns. For about the same size as the M42 there are a number of single stack 9mm's that are available. For the revolver fan, a sub nose 38 Spec such as the S&W J frame and Ruger LCR are good choices. My pocket gun is a Kel-Tec P3-AT and I've had good results w/it, but that hasn't been everyone's experience.
If one can find a way to carry using an inside the waist band holster, there are a large number of single stack 9mm guns available. Some of the ones that come to mind include: Kahr CW9/PM9/P9, Ruger LC9, Springfield XDS, S&W M&P Shield, Sig Sauer 250 and Beretta Nano. For those willing to adequately learn the SAO platform, I'd throw in the Sig 938 as well as a reliable 1911 (either Officer or Commander size). A number of the single stack 9mm's can be carried in some pockets, but the true pocket pistols can be carried in almost all pockets.
I'll assume from your name that you're a lady. If you can consider carrying concealed off body, e.g. in a purse, you won't have to settle for a pocket pistol; the single stack 9mm's are an option and, in my opinion, are a better choice.
Whether you carry your gun in a pocket or in a purse, please buy a quality holster to provide some protection to both the gun and it's safety.
