Gonna start offing a few in the backyard. Too close to the city to use a .22. Suggestions?

If you have a bolt or revolver or single shot, I'd suggest a 22 using cci quiet cb. Very quiet. If you have a semi, maybe cci quiet semi auto. If you insist on a pellet, I can't help you but there, but there are some low noise 22 options.

Got a Gamo from a local hardware store. Came with a scope. Spend a little time sighting in the scope and it works great.

I have a gamo that I can’t sight in…I even changed scopes and I’m all over the place with it. Squirrels are safe!

I have a gamo that has the same issue. No matter what I do it won't group better than about 3' at 20 yards. Its honestly impressive.

Do you have a 22 that can shoot shorts? If not you can get subsonics and shoot them from inside the house and you cant hear the outside.

I have a Benjamin 392 and it's deadly on squirrels. I also have a Volquartsen .22LR I built and with a Dead Air Mask there is no comparison, the Vol is far quieter than the Benj. I shoot RWS sub sonics in the .22 Vol

.22 rimfire in any variation is classified as a firearm.

Your standard hardware store/tractor supply pellet gun is not. It matters if you hit a car or a window or get a visit from green jeans.

I got a Crosman from Midway USA a few years ago. Scope is crap but the few shots I take after sighting in (before having to re-sight it) punishes a squirrel. 1200 fps.
You may have to buy several different pellets to see what works best. Mine loves Crosman HPs best.
I use a tripod rest and have killed dozens of squirrels with it, but I really need a better scope.

You have to find the one that hold a group. It took throwing away a few cans, but I found one. I do not remember the name, but it is a match pellet with a point.

Is your scope moving? A pellet gun doesn’t recoil like a normal rifle. The recoil is forward which causes the scope to move rearward.

I’m assuming the scope is the dovetail type mount? If so, there is a little block that you can put behind it that will stop it. I had to put one on mine.

Gamo scope stop

To the OP, a .22 bolt action with subs and a silencer is way quieter than a pellet gun.

If you can find a Sig ASP20, get it. There's one on eBay right now. I have as much confidence in mine as I do my . 22 and .17 Mach 2.

Exact same. I hit about 1 out of every 20 squirrels. They don't even run when they see me come out of the back door with it anymore.

Gamo is just not a great brand, but sometimes it's the pellet/gun match. I've had three different air guns of different quality over the last 5 years. Each one liked a different pellet and weight was always a factor.

This is the answer. At least as far as noise. The neighbors won’t hear it. But if you’ll be seen then that’s still a problem.

I have a Crosman Nirto Venom .22 break barrel and Hatsan Sniper Vortex .22 break barrel. Both are great. The Hatsan is a little more powerful but also heavier. Both have provided sufficient varmint control over the years.

I’ve had people see me with mine and none of them would be able to discern it from a pellet gun.

.22 caliber Benjamin pumped 8 times has been known to kill quite a few squirrels.

Only took two posts for someone to mention a .22. I'll never understand how it occurs to you people to mention one when the question is about air rifles. Happens every damn time though.
