If u don't get one w a threaded barrel & suppress it you’re really missing out of some fun shooting.

Let me know what you decide on. I’ve been looking for the same thing.

Thanks for all the responses. It’s looking like the 457 is the way. I really want to stick with the walnut stock so I guess aftermarket threading is the only option?

I have the tikka t1x, put a q el Camino can on it and a little vortex diamondback scope I had lying around on it. Great setup for small game, plinking, or getting my little ones shooting.

Looks like CZ makes what you're looking for. The Royal and AT-One models have threaded barrels and non-synthetic stocks. The Royal has a wood/Mannlicher stock while the AT-One has a wooden laminated stock.

nrl22 matches and hit 300 yard targets.

ballistics charts for the 22 long rifle cartridge shows about a 40 inch drop at 220 yards and do not even include 300 yards

I have a Ruger 77/22. It's dead accurate, limited only by the ammo you feed it, and yourself. They are not cheap, however....

I'll join in giving some love to the 77/22, but you'll have to find it on the used market as it was discontinued last year. Supposedly the less expensive and cheaper to make Ruger America rimfire model killed sales of the 77/22. I have a 77/22 I bought about 40 years ago. We've had a bunch of enjoyable squirrel hunts. It's very accurate, nicely compact w/o being "too" small, has a bolt that's smooth as silk and features pretty wood, although the wood has acquired a "few" dings and scratches during it's lifetime. In addition, if you find a 77/22 on the used market, check ahead of time to be sure it can be threaded. When I bought my rimfire suppressor, I looked into getting it threaded, but was told the muzzle was to thin to thread. I thought of getting a custom barrel, but there were none for it at the time. It's still one of my favorite guns.

Rimfire PRS competitors don’t use ballistic charts they use ballistic calculators. The ballistic calculator I use shows 49.5 moa (13.4 mils) for my ammo/rifle combo.

bluemoons, Like you, I enjoy shooting an accurate 22 LR, especially since ammo's become more available. Unfortunately, I don't do much squirrel hunting anymore. I own 3 bolt action 22 LR's so I'll share my experiences. I'm in the process of comparing the accuracy of my 22 LR bolt guns. I've not finished, but I got some early suspicions.

My first bolt 22 was a Ruger 77/22. It's a really nice gun that's very dear to my heart. Sadly, the 77/22's been discontinued. I'll probably get a Ruger American Rimfire if I catch a good deal on one.

When I bought my Spectre 2 suppressor, I wanted a 22 LR rifle w/ a threaded barrel. As I mentioned, I was told my 77/22 barrel was too thin to thread. I really wanted a CZ 457. At that time it was a brand new model. When the guns started getting to the dealer shelves, the model I wanted. was no longer in the catalog: synthetic stock and moderately heavy threaded barrel. Tikka had what I wanted so I got a T1x. I really like the Tikka and can endorse. My Tikka T1x review.

Next I came across a good deal on a Savage Mk II at Christmas so I bought it. I had some initial problems w/ the extractor, common w/ Savage rimfires. I finally got it fixed using some suggestions from the 'net and free parts from Savage (after 20 minutes on hold on the phone). Savage rimfires also have a known issue w/ headspace and cheap magazines that are prone to breakage. Good custom mags are available. In addition, Savage Customer Service has a good reputation, but you may be on the phone for a while. I can recommend the Savage, as long as you accept the risk of getting a gun you may need to work on. My Savage review

Last summer I came across the Howa Model 1100 22 LR. I'd had good experiences w/ Howa rifle actions so I bought one. I've been pleased w/ its accuracy, but cannot recommend it due to ongoing feeding problems that've not been corrected by Howa. It's thought to be a magazine issue. My gun came w/ 2 mags, one of which had feeding problems. The feeding issues are well documented now on the 'net. After "jumping through a bunch of hoops" for Howa, they sent me a new magazine free of charge. Now I've got 3 factory mags, only one of which runs smoothly. My Howa review.

Summary of my guns.
Accuracy: Tikka>Savage~Ruger 77/22>Howa
Function out of the box: Tikka=Ruger 77/22>Howa=Savage
Cost: Tikka>Ruger American Rimfire>Howa>>Savage

My favorite huting buddy has a CZ in 17 HMR and it's scary accurate. His has a wooden stock w/ an unthreaded barrel. I don't have personal experience w/ the Bergara nor Ruger Precision, but I've read a lot of favorable comments about them. It comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend. Keep us updated.

Random story.

Dug an old savage bolt 22 out of my parents house. Hadn’t been used for at least as long as I’ve been alive.

Google told me it was probably given away with a car a long time ago. Stock wasn’t really finished, just covered with a clear poly lacquer.

I stripped it and refinished the stock. Did a halfway decent cold blueing on it, and added a cheap scope.

That little gun has killed its fair share of nuisance armadillos.
